Enjoy a classic campout at this rustic state park.
Looking for a secluded getaway close to the city? Just 50 minutes outside of St. Louis, Robertsville State Park is a rustic retreat, perfect for an off-grid getaway. The Meramec River and Calvey Creek border the park, offering scenic spots for fishing and boating. Hike through the hardwoods, watching for migratory birds, an oxbow slough, rippling streams, and pawpaw trees. If you’re lucky you might find some pawpaw fruit in late summer or early fall. Though almost-forgotten, it is the largest edible native fruit in North America. After a day of exploring the grand wilderness, camp under a canopy of trees..
In spring, wildflower blossoms add color to the forests, as the tree leaves begin to fill in. Bluebonnets arrive in April and can best be enjoyed with a hike along the Spice Bush Trail. By summer, the towering trees add shade to the campground, though high temperatures may reach the 90s in July and August. Humidity tends to be high at this time, as well. As fall arrives, October offers the best chance for enjoying the colorful foliage before temperatures begin to drop below freezing in the winter months.
