Get real cozy at Clear Creek Guard Station, just 20 miles NE of Montpelier, Idaho, at the intersection of Crow Creek and Clear Creek.
The one-room cabin, built by the Young Adult Conservation Corps in 1980, fits 15 people and provides three single beds (no bedding included), so do the math and pack accordingly. A wood stove keeps the cabin toasty in the winter, and the picnic table and campfire ring take center stage in the summer. There’s no water or cooking materials provided, but there is an outhouse just outside the house for not-so-scary midnight relief. Nearby trails attack mountain bikers, hikers, and off-road vehicle enthusiasts – as well as black bear, wolf, elk, moose, mule deer, bison, grizzly bear, mountain lion, and pronghorn – and anglers can fish in Clear Creek. One final recommendation, depending on the season and snow cover, you may have to snowmobile to the cabin. Either way, there is an adventure to be had!
