Camping near Petrified Forest NP
The property was easy to find and navigate, even after dark. We were at the right place but unsure of sites so driving the perimeter road to check things out, and Ontario met us and clarified where the boundaries of the property were, and let us know if we needed anything he was available. Super nice guy! The train is close enough to be on the loud side, but it didnât bother us one bit. Aside from the train the property is serene. There is an electric company storage facility right next to the property with bright lights, but 2 nice hills to camp behind so no light pollution if you pick your spot well. The perimeter road/driveway is manageable with a higher clearance vehicle but if you plan to drive further into the property to be further away from the train, you will need a 4wd vehicle, because there are significant land variations including plenty of brush and a wash to clear. We didnât stray too far from the perimeter roads since we were only staying the night to head to Petrified Forest NP early in the day the following morning. Other campers and wind had left some trash but we cleaned up around where we camped and left it better than we found it. The stars are beautiful, the location is convenient when heading to PFNP, and Ontario (the host) is super responsive and friendly. The price is wonderful too.
