Simple camping in the grounds of a farmhouse, with thrill-seeking activities in arm's reach

Walltree House Camping is located on the grounds of the titular stone farmhouse, now a B&B in the English countryside of Northamptonshire. In the same acre or so of land as the farmhouse is its campsite, providing a laid-back rural getaway that happens to be a stone's throw away from a slew of adrenaline-pumping activities.

Walltree House Camping's pitches are mown into the grass in a sociable manner; kept in clusters of three where campers share access to a firepit and picnic table for those long evenings of roasting marshmallows. A rustic, wood-clad bathroom cabin provides modern amenities, from washing-up facilities to those all-important hot showers. And, if you're in a group with people who don't like camping, there's also a guest house with en-suite bedrooms.

Along with its sociable camping clusters, what also makes Walltree House stand out for families is its proximity to lively activities. Hinton Airfield is less than a two-minute walk away from the site – you can go skydiving, take on a gliding flight experience and or even try your hand at their pilot training. There's paintball on the farm, too, so thrill-seekers can run riot through the woods and perhaps have a shoot out with those people in the group who said they didn't like camping. It all lends a surprisingly active buzz to this very peaceful plot of land.

And this land isn't just used for camping — the openness of its field also means it's used for events. Walltree House's one-and-a-quarter acres can be transformed into an area for marquees, teepee tents, stages and more, with friendly host, Rachel, happy to accommodate any special occasion, showcasing the versatility of the land. There aren't many places where you can go camping, jump out of a plane and host a concert all in the same place. But, then, Walltree isn't like most places.

Images Coming Soon Luxury Shepherds hut nestled into a secluded area set behind our beautiful Farmhouse, our Shepherds huts include shower, toilet, double bed and log burner. Perfect for a quiet getaway. We are in the Northamptonshire countryside 10 minutes’ drive from Brackley. Views all around are of open countryside, and it’s easy to get out for more rural exploring – you can pretty much venture straight from your tent out onto public footpaths leading through field and woods to classic villages and country pubs. Get in the driving seat instead and all sorts of day trips can be on the menu, including outings to Blenheim Palace, Silverstone and Stratford-upon-Avon. More intrepid visitors can sate their appetite for adventure at Hinton Airfield with skydiving, gliding and flying days, or challenge travelling companions at the paintballing centre – both are pretty much next door. Rather more relaxing times in mind? Take a wander around the grounds to look out for remnants of World War II outbuildings and air-raid shelters, or simply settle down to watch the gliders overhead.

Nice site
Tent
Nice, well kept site with decent, clean showers and toilets. Fire pits with grilles and some dedicate BBQ patio areas make outdoor cooking fun. Good activities nearby with paintball site down the road and even skydiving next door.

Great little spot
Tent · With kids
Great little spot for a night or two away camping. Great facilities and the pitch sizes are large with most fitting a couple or three average sized tents. Each pitch has a fire pit with a BBQ grill and a picnic bench too. Warm showers with clean and not too rustic toilets. Freezer for your ice packs and two sinks for washing up. Only down side is the parking, not loads of it, but would deffo go back!

Perfect little camp site.
Tent · With kids
Great little site, with perfect facilities! Love that you get a fire pit in the centre of each pitch. And even better is that all the pitches are clearly visible because of the long grass separating each one. Even better you get to see skydivers fly over ever so often.

Countryside camping in a charming setting surrounded by nature and based next to activity-haven Hinton Airfield. Stays at Walltree House Camping are in the grounds of a smart B&B in a traditional stone farmhouse, out in the Northamptonshire countryside, just 10 minutes’ drive from Brackley. Circular pitches here are mown into the long wild grass in clusters of three, with each cluster provided with a shared picnic table and firepit for free use (just the spot for quiet morning coffees and evenings toasting marshmallows while the sun sets).
