The Lost River Hostel is a nonprofit arts and cultural center located on a 29+ acre hillside in West Baden Springs, Indiana overlooking a section of the Lost River valley.
Lost River Hostel strives to build and maintain an extraordinary space fueled by a constant cycle of generosity and creativity. We hope everyone who stays here will go back into the world refreshed and rejuvenated – wanting to be better people and do great things. Everything we do here is driven by our mission statement: "To provide a sandbox for exploration of goals and growth through nature and human connection." We accomplish this by providing a distraction-free, reflective space that is welcoming of people from all backgrounds and beliefs. A communal dinner with gratitude circle is included in every stay. We also host workshops and events related to music, writing, yoga, organic gardening, cooking, and environmental sustainability.
Lost River Hostel offers a unique camping experience blending nature with community vibes. Guests are welcomed by friendly staff and enjoy communal meals and activities like gratitude circles. The outdoor showers and art porch provide a special touch, adding to the peaceful and creative environment. However, communication via Hipcamp messaging can be unreliable, and some guests noted concerns about security for the nests.
Nice place to settle down. The beds are outdoors covered with mesh to keep the bugs out but nothing is 100% proof. You have to carry your stuff to the sleeping site. You can shower in the hostel or the outdoor bathroom with high ceilings and one wall is open to nature. There is a small lagoon for swimming. Clothing is optional. Communication via Hipcamp messaging wasn’t good. Never got a message from them at all. Only when I called them picked up. There is a worker at the house.
This was the best trip we've had to date. The staff were very welcoming, the food was delicious, and the property was beautiful. We plan on coming back ASAP.
This was a gorgeous spot with very welcoming staff and more-than-expected accommodations. We witnessed the eclipse here and had some magical experiences.
We stayed in a nest (which had a ceiling fan and an outlet!), but there was no way to secure it from the inside while sleeping, which would have made us feel much more secure.
Dinner was provided and allowed for a gathering of guests, but the layout of the property and sites made it very easy to keep to yourself, if you preferred.
THERE IS AN ART PORCH. And it is just as lovely as it sounds. Also notable: labyrinth, frog pond, fabulous plants, indoor shower and toilet, as well as multiple equipped outhouses, fridge for your things, and a beautiful drive to get there.
My partner and I were passing through on a road trip. Even though we stayed one night, it was a great experience and we wished we could of stayed longer. Everyone was very kind, accommodating and welcoming. Until next time!!
Loved the treehouse and overall vibe of this space. Folks were very friendly and accommodating. Enjoyed the gratitude circles so much.
