Nestled on the banks of the Ohio River, this primitive camp is ideal for nearby fishing, boating, kayaking, and swimming! Our unique location offers a picturesque view of downtown Evansville and Dutch’s Island. Set in a no-wake zone, the shallow beachy island also serves as a barrier from the river channel creating calm lake-like waters. We are located only 0.2mi from Dogtown boat ramp and 300ft from Nu Plaza marina. Biking, walking/hiking trails, local park, and pool nearby. On our property, we allow our campers the flexibility to pick their own perfect spot to camp. There are large mature trees that offer plenty of shade and flat ground for an easy setup. Each site has a firepit, picnic table, and nearby trash can. A firewood bundle is included and complimentary smores packages upon request. Our property features 2 communal areas each with a fire pit, charcoal grill, tables, chairs, and lights. There is access to electric power strips and water hoses in each communal area. Kayaks are available to registered campers only first come, first serve. Price is $25 or a single kayak, $50 for a tandem. Includes lifejackets. Watson's Rivercamp Retreat
The host was welcoming and the sites were level and mowed. The portapotty was clean. When I showed up there were a ton of mosquitoes but none the next morning. Understand that the sites are essentially in their front yard just off of the road and about 100 yards from an active (every 45-60 minutes) train line. I didn’t take advantage of their common spaces or waterfront so can only comment on the site itself.

No communication
We paid for the spot well in advance (2 months) because it being memorial day weekend. I got nervous as it got closer to the time and didn't receive any notices or messages from the host, like how to get there, if any construction or what the weather was suspected to be like that weekend for camping. Nothing. Dead silence. I searched frantically for where the place was and could not find any communication. We stayed somewhere else as we didn't know where it was. Disappointing to say the least. She has our money and we were left hanging.

We had an amazing time at the retreat! The campsites were spread out and clean, with several amenities like firewood, s’mores, portable charcoal grills, games, and super clean portapots. Amber is very kind and attentive but also lets you enjoy your stay privately. I would recommend this place 10 out of we!!

It was quite peaceful! And the smore package was lovely. They let us use the Charcoal grill and were friendly and helpful. Plenty of firewood. Country setting with Walmart access only 10mins away. Very reasonably priced. Will definitely do it again!

It was fine. Close to downtown and a good deal considering the eclipse. The train was pretty loud and close by. And the marina felt a little sketchy next door. This was our first Hip Camp experience and we learned a lot about some of the amenities we’d like at the campsite. Amber was kind and responsive.
