Come explore this incredible piece of Cold War History as you will get a tour of the underground Atlas F Missile Base! This is the site of a decommissioned Atlas F Missile Silo which was abandoned by the Air Force in the 60's.
You can book separate from camping a historical tour of the Missile Base property and the underground Launch Control Center with a tunnel that leads to the 176 ft. deep Missile Silo.(This is a construction zone, as the bunker is being renovated into an underground home. Be prepared to sign liability waivers.)
Located in the Smoky Hills of Kansas, you will be camping in beautiful fields with great views of a 250 MW windfarm.
Hike over a mile of trails on the property and pick out your own camp spot.
Join other guests at the top of the Missile Silo for a campfire at night and enjoy stargazing.
Just mins away from the local tavern and restaurants in Wilson & a Brewery in the small town of Sylvan Grove.
Nearby is Lake Wilson, one of the largest and cleanest lakes in the State, there are water sports and Epic rated mountain biking trails.
Interesting to see the Atlas silo and learn more of the history of mutually assured destruction. Matthew was very welcoming at the site. It was very quiet with a big sky for stargazing.
Great site that looks like its only going to get better in time, would highly recommend the tour too. Matthew is a fantastic, knowledgeable host and guide.
This camping spot was simultaneously the most beautiful and coolest spot in Kansas. Highly recommend doing the tour as well - Matt made the tour super interesting and it was awesome hearing his ideas for the spot. We will definitely be back 🙂
Our second trip to the silo and we were amazed at the progress and how much has changed in less than two years. Matt’s vision is happening and it’s mind blowing. What hasn’t changed is the dark skies and bright stars that never disappoint, or the quiet Kansas hills with amazing views. Awesome host, and we look forward to another stay soon.
A very cool, unique site with secluded camping spots and a very friendly and knowledgeable host. I learned a ton from doing the tour. The host set up a community fire pit at night for anyone who wanted to join. He star gazing was incredible. Would recommend!
