So relaxing and peaceful!
What a beautiful desert landscape! The location is remote and peaceful. The only sound was the wind and there was no light pollution. It’s an ideal place to relax, camp, and read a good book.

Fantastic campsite. Beautiful views. Took the south county route to get to the site and took just under an hour to get there from Terlingua. High clearance is a must, 4wd recommended but you can make it in with most stock jeeps and trucks. Only problem we had finding the place was the last turn has signage for Twin Peaks camp but not ocotillo acres, so we weren't sure we were at the correct spot until we pulled up to the site. The camp itself was clean, quiet, secluded. The hike west of camp has fantastic views of the canyon and our dogs loved taking morning walks up the path. If you bring a tent, make sure you have heavy duty stakes because the ground is all sand, shake and gravel. We saw 1 rattlesnake, a few scorpions and heard plenty of coyotes, but nothing close to the campsite while we were there. I highly recommend this spot if your looking for some secluded primitive camping, and especially if you're interested in star gazing or astrophotography; the view of the milking way is an amazing site

Great Time but not not for the Fool
14 ft travel trailer ·
I had a great time. It is so quiet and the stars are amazing. It is very remote. I saw shooting strars every 5 to 10 minutes, what appeared to be Novas or exploding stars, all kinds of flashing stars. It was like seeing God. The Milky Way center was so clear. It was like a road. Spearking of, I have a Ram Rebel 1500 with Air Suspension. I have SatNav and Starlink. I went alone, I would not recommend it. I am a very experierenced hiker and off roader, with triple redundant systems. I hiked the PCT and Appalachian Trail. I did 3 Junlge trips in Latin America. My brother in law was sadly killed in a hiking accident.. I know the risks and it was not my first rodeo. But Honestly, I was scared at times!! A winch is one of the best things you can have for off roading the backcountry, not here, can't hook up to a cactus. Going Alone was scary, I would highly reccommend going with a budy. A second vehichle, and a person to help a sprained ankle, can mean life or death. I was surprised by the conditions. I took the "red way" in, hey it's an adventure. :) I have the best truck, and I have triple back-up systems (i have a 1.5K tire inflating backup system). I was shocked. It is shale that could pop a tire in a second, I was bouncing and my seat belt locking at 5 mph. BUT it is exactly what I was hoping for and WOW it was FUN. But seriously do not even think of goin here with a Subaru. The camp iteslef is nothing,. just what I wanted.! The Town is really cool, very laid back.
