Site 2 - Saddletramp Ranch, High Desert Camp
This place was great. It was my first time camping alone and it was a beautiful spot to do that! I felt safe and comfortable here. The chairs by the fire pit are a nice touch.
I will say, my ford focus was not able to make it all the way down to campsite 2 (because of low clearance), but it was great otherwise.

This is a lovely campsite at a great price. Shannon’s directions were clear and the free firewood left at the site was a nice perk. Beautiful view of Elephant Mtn and, of course, the vast sky full of stars. Thought I saw the mysterious “marfa lights” but my eyes could’ve been playing tricks on me. Will most definitely be back.

Perfect, beautiful solitude! Saw a gorgeous sunset and sunrise. Enjoyed chatting with Shannon for a few minutes, thanks for having us!

Loved the view of the nearby mountains. The only evidence I saw of any humans were some lights way off in the distance. I appreciated the level spot for my tent, the fire circle and the easy access back to TX 118 (and from there Alpine, Terlinga and BBNP). This was a good spot for solitude (exactly what I was looking for).

Spring Break Camping
Shannon was kind and extremely accommodating for our trip! We enjoyed our stay and the grounds. It was very secluded and could not be seen from the highway. The property was between Terilingua and Alpine, two really cute towns. It was about an 1.5 hour drive to get to Chisos Basin Visitor Center. The original plan was to bring horses, but with the spike in diesel prices, we decided to focus on hiking instead. The stalls were made of four cattle panels and a bit rocky, so that is something to factor in on your packing list. We hope to be able to return with the horses one day soon!
