Weekend Trip to Texas Safari Camp

Beautiful water, tree house, & property!! We celebrated my husbands birthday with friends and my kiddos kayaked and paddle boarded for first time. Randol was so helpful and hospitable providing life jackets and a sleeping mat when my inflatable mattress deflated. Just kind hospitality. We made it through the rain camping in a tent and lightning & made the best of it! Was a lot of fun & beautiful peace filled getaway. You will hear many animal noises at night that was definitely an experience ☺️

Weekend Trip to Twisted Oaks...

No frills car camping, highly recommended! John’s land is beautiful and has many sites to choose from with flat places for tents, fire ring, tables and chairs. John is friendly and so are his dogs. He’s done a lot of DIY projects like an outdoor shower, bucket flush toilet, disc golf holes (bring your own discs) and has a few campers, a dump truck and other equipment on site that might not feel like pure nature but it didn’t bother me. If you want a true “pristine natural area” look elsewhere but for weekend car campers it’s a great place. Firewood available on site. 15 mins from downtown.

Weekend Trip to The Navasota River Ranch

The views at Hilltop Prairie were gorgeous! We loved getting to explore the property with our kids and dog. William was a friendly and welcoming host, giving us maps and explaining the layout of the property and stayed in touch through the app. The property is far enough from town to feel secluded, but close enough that a run to the store for forgotten supplies was quick and easy. We would definitely recommend this place!

I have camped at Randal’s place many times but this was my first time sleeping in his treehouse. It looks very rustic and I loved the hummingbird stained glass window! The bed was comfortable and I slept well on it. It was a bit warm at night so I am glad to be able to use the electric outlet available to plug in my phone. A thunderstorm rolled in overnight but the treehouse was well insulated so no water got in. I definitely want to stay there again sometime!

We loved our time at BCBC Ranch! The land is quintessential Texas scenery. You're surrounded by cacti, longhorns, granite outcroppings, wildflowers and live oaks. We loved exploring Llano and the surrounding areas by way of the beautiful winding hill country roads. It was a camping trip we will not soon forget!! The hosts were very helpful. Highly recommend!

Texas Safari Camp was fantastic. We went as a group of 9 LGBT friends and we felt incredibly welcomed. Randall is a very kind and accommodating host who has been hosting campers on his property for decades. The property itself was lovely. There are two ponds on the property. We camped next to the back pond which was a bit of a hike with all of our gear, but the off-road carts provided make this much easier. We took advantage of the stand up paddle boards, kayaks, and swam in the main pond. It was a great time! The trails on the property are well maintained and nice to traverse. Would recommend this location and we will definitely be back again.

We spent two wonderful nights at one of the many well-maintained tent sites on Randall’s stunning and secluded property. Our chosen site came with a table, which was a thoughtful and convenient touch. The boys had an absolute blast kayaking and fishing in the larger pond, and their visit to the nearby Zoofari Park made the trip even more memorable. It was the perfect getaway from the city—peaceful, beautiful, and filled with adventure!

Weekend Trip to Texas Safari Camp

Randall was the kindest, most respectful, intentional, and delightful host. He met us at our truck when we arrived and gave us a tour and even invited us to join him by the fire and hear about how this Hipcamp came to be. The cabin is clean, sturdy, comfortable, and so cute. The queen mattress is very comfy. The bathroom is clean and easily accessible. The land is peaceful, private, and well maintained. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!

Octillo Grande was everything I hoped it would be. Just minutes away from the NP the property was easy to locate and Wes was very prompt to reply to any questions I had leading up to my stay. What a beautiful property - I can't wait to go back!

Great place !! Wife and i got the Skyview spot and the stars at night were amazing ! Sadly it was super windy that day so there were loads of dust blowing from the spot. Super primitive spots , with outhouse and besr part it was right next to the river ! Cold and enjoyable! They have aome farm animals along with doggies that passed by to say hi .

We loved staying at Frit's Ranch! We thought his land was beautiful and even getting to it the scenery was amazing. If you want a place thats quiet and secluded then don't think twice about reserving a spot here! Very beautiful and well kept.

This is our family farm, though you probably will not see us much. The campsite is located on a corner of the property on Cummins Creek and once you get there you will feel secluded in nature. Matt grew up here swimming, fishing and exploring in this creek...the creek has taught him more about life than anyone ever could. I hope that you too can understand why we always walk alway feeling like this is a very special spot! Enjoy pizza oven, grill, fire pit, picnic table, hot tub, swimming, fishing, exploring and knowing your party is the only people that you be on this site. Update: Off the grid hot tub is back!!!

. These are unique camping spots along the Guadalupe River. I didn’t exactly understand how unique until I started getting feedback from my campers. The surrounding scenery will lower your blood pressure and do wonders to let you reconnect with nature. Sit back and close your eyes late in the evening and listen to all the wildlife talking to each other. There is faint traffic noise from 90A about a 1/3 of a mile away but it calms down after 7 or so. Currently no amenities but I am in the plans for some portable bathrooms. Please be prepared to cover all your bathroom and cooking needs. I do have some good clean well water from a faucet on the way into the campgrounds. Campfires are permitted. There is a convenience store (Diamond A) with clean bathrooms and a great bbq just 5 miles to the west on 90A and a Walmart and HEB 10 miles to the east on 90A. (Both Diamond A and Walmart sell fishing licenses if you need one. Dogs are allowed at sites 3 and 4 but not at 1 or 2 where my livestock guardian dogs have access to. No matter the size or temperament of your pets you are always expected to have them under your control at ALL times. I have very small livestock in the area frequently I am almost always on the property and try to have my phone with me while campers are on site, just let me know what you need and I will do what I can to accommodate you Rentals include paddles and however many lifejackets you need. 12-14ft Jon boats $30 unlimited days Tandem (double) kayaks $25 unlimited days Single kayak $20 unlimited days Tub of mixed firewood ( pecan, hackberry, sycamore and chinaberry $15 Tub of split pecan wood $20 $5 cash discount off total but can also accept Zelle, cashapp, PayPal and Venmo.

As our topo map shows we have a wide variety of terrain ranging from steep cliffs with huge views to shady canyons. The river cuts through the middle of the place and is surrounded by four hills that each have their unique characteristics ranging from flat oak-covered to rocky steep ridges. I guarantee you will find beauty all around. We do have a couple of fun areas to try your 4-wheel drive out. Please dont make your own....stay on trails. There are plenty of places to swim. When the Ladder is reserved, you may not swim there. Please be respectful. We have 1.5 miles of both sides of the river so plenty of places to swim. It varies a lot in depth and width over the ranch. Every camp spot has access to all the swimming holes except the ladder when it is booked. The main swimming holes are-- 1. Below the Green Cabin 2. Low Gear Farmstead's 75 acres border the lovely San Saba River, providing campers the opportunity to swim, wade, fish and paddle. Farm animals including dairy goats, chickens, and horses inhabit the property, but wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, ringtail, fox and armadillo is also abundant. Bird watchers will be delighted at the diversity of birds, especially in spring. Don't forget to look up at night as our dark skies provide excellent stargazing on clear nights and a very visible Milky Way. We limit the number of campsites and spread them out so that campers may enjoy privacy and seclusion. Campsites are provided with compost toilets and most sites also have a fire ring. 4WD is not required unless we have had heavy rains, otherwise most vehicles, except very low clearance ones, do fine. The nearest town, Menard, is about a 12 minute drive from the property and has a grocery store, gas stations, a couple restaurants, a pub and a bakery. Lovers of history might enjoy visiting the Presidio de San Saba, about 20 minutes from the farm, as well as the historic Pioneers Rest Cemetery in town. Low Gear Farmstead is a safe, welcoming space for queers and POC.

The Navasota River Ranch

The Navasota River Ranch is a 600 ac parcel of land bounded by more than a mile of the Navasota River on its west side and two tributary creeks on its north and southeast sides. The river bottom is wild and untamed, while the rest is rolling hills reminiscent of the prairie that once greeted settlers. Nearby is Bryan-College Station home of Texas A&M University To the west on Hwy 105 is Washington on the Brazos State Park. This is the location where delegates gathered to hastily draw up a declaration of independence before joining the Runaway Scrape to avoid capture and execution by the advancing Mexican Army. Farther down the road is the famous Blue Bell creamery in Brenham. The tour and ice cream are well worth the trip. On the property are miles of Jeep trails excellent for off road and 4WD vehicles. Guests might prefer hiking along these trails or strike out on foot trails and game trails. Thanks to the hunters who have come for the deer and feral hogs over the years there are numerous observation structures for viewing wildlife up close, or just enjoying the solitude of the deep woods. Three ponds offer bass and perch fishing from the bank or bring your own boat. And then there is the Navasota River...

Campfires are tied to weather, strong wind low humidity and dry conditions will be considered when allowing permitted fires.... cook stoves are ok.
