Learn more about this land: Step away from the hustle and bustle of city life back to a quiet ranch setting. Set on a beautiful working cattle ranch surrounded by hills, this camping area gives you the peace and serenity you are looking for. Spend the days exploring the ranch, playing in the seasonal creek, fishing in the stock tank, or feeding the wild cows. Then, spend the nights looking up at the stars, sitting by the campfire and enjoying the night time sounds of the wild. When you need time away from the ranch, visit nearby Cleburne State Park, Dinosaur Valley State Park, the Brazos river, historic Glen Rose, or enjoy a Cleburne Railroaders baseball game.  Although there is plenty of room for all campers at the Dusty Nickel, we want to leave room for our grass fed cows to roam too, so we are limiting it to 4 camping spots per night. There isn't electric, sewer or water at the sites, however, water is available near the house to refill tanks etc. The owner does live on site, but will respect your privacy and you can be out of the direct sight of the house depending where you camp. Step away from the hustle and bustle of city life back to a quiet ranch setting. Great place to camp with privacy. Host gave great directions. It was cold but there was plenty of wood to gather. I would definitely return to explore and camp again. I caught a few nice bass from the pond. I even had a few cows witness my catch.

Tent
A group of friends and I watched the eclipse on Daniel’s beautiful land. It’s a huge pasture, which was covered in bluebonnets during our stay. There were 3 or 4 other groups but there was so much space we couldn’t even hear the others. And the woods adjacent to the pasture had plenty of shade and dry wood for our fire. The cows come and go, and will get close if you let them, but they’re easy to shoo away. Since it’s an active pasture there are lots of cowpies, but most are old and dry and had no smell. The air smells like the flowers and trees. All my friends had cell service, and some even had a decent data connection. If you can go without a bathroom and don’t mind cows/cowpies, you’ll love this spot. Peaceful, easy, and affordable.

Spectacular Field of Bluebonnets
Tent
I booked a stay at The Dusty Nickel for the eclipse and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Experiencing nature respond to the sun setting and rising again at 2pm in the afternoon is a core memory my friends and I will cherish for the rest of our lives. The front pasture becomes a never ending field of bluebonnets in the spring and the cows are hilariously curios and social. My Great Dane loved exploring the property. It’s an incredible property, I’m looking forward to visiting again.

We really had a great time here! We tent camped on Daniel and Sammy’s property and we will definitely be going back! The property was beautiful; so much greenery and the kids loved the pond, walking along the creek, and watching the cows. The drive to the property was beautiful, the perfect time of year because everywhere we drove wildflowers galore!

Night on the farm
Daniel has a very nice plot of land about 2 miles from the entrance of Cleburne State Park. 2 dogs were in heaven running through the acres of open fields. Daniel was pleasant and helpful guiding us to our campsite with his little boy on a quad. somewhat difficult terrain to manage, not for every vehicle but most would do just fine (this time of year). wonderful nights stay, we were happy with our experience.
