16 idyllic acres across the street from the salmon rich Skokomish Estuary with incredible views of the Olympic Mountains across Hood Canal. I live in a historic house which is surrounded by a large front lawn, more than enough room for about 8 tents. Behind the house is a wooded hill (120ft elevation) with some rare old growth trees. I often swim and kayak in the Skokomish river. There are water faucets for non potable water, a porta potty and a warm outside shower.
This was such a wonderful place to stay! Katja is a wonderful person and super friendly/hospitable host. She made us feel welcome at her beautiful home, which overlooks the Hood Canal. Beautiful views of the Olympic mountains and beautiful wildlife, such as bald eagles, vultures, kingfishers, and other big birds and aquatic animals. We will definitely be back!
The location can be noisier at night due to the road (although most cars stop driving much in the are by 10pm) and I had heard some of the local Natives fish in this area at night, but we had no issues with sleeping!
Lovely host and awesome location. We were lucky to score a spot at Katja’s hipcamp. Great base camp to explore surrounding area like Hood Sport, Potlatch State Park, Lake Cushman, The Staircase. She was able to accommodate our smallish trailer. She provided great local tips and had pamphlets and guidebooks at the ready. Nice laid back vibe with a group propane fire pit and grill. Love that it’s perched up a bit to get a nice view of the river and the sky at sunset.
Such a perfect spot for fishing Salmon.
We loved our spot.
You see mountains, river, sunset, it placed near bay… shower was really hot and good. Thanks for the host kindness…
Katja was a welcoming host, the port-a-potty was clean and well lit, and there was a shower available. An easy place to land in our van near Hood Canal.
