Description

The Kirkwood Historic Ranch Campground is rich in river history from early Native American occupation to pioneer ranching life. This site is super popular in the summer and accessible by boat via the Snake River, or by hiking the Snake River National Recreation Trail (about a six mile trek.) Kirkwood offers backpackers a campsite with restrooms (and, yes, flush toilets), tent spots, picnic tables, fire rings, and a water supply. It’s pretty cushy backpacking, and the ranch campground is a good jumping off point for day hikes. The historic ranch offers a taste of canyon life in the 1930s with the original ranch house, bunk houses and other out-buildings, making sure you come home just a little bit smarter than when you left. Check website for closures.
