Micone Ranch

1 site · RV, Tent28 acres · Ontario, OR
Our place is 28 acres, and you can camp in a variety of locations. From spring to fall, do not drive into irrigated areas because you could get stuck and cause property damage. Our niche is that we only host one group of people at a time. Whether you are a solo camper or a group of 50, you will never have to compete for space with another group. This also allows for increased safety for single women, elderly, and others who want increased safety. Keep in mind that winter brings snow, and we have a small bridge to cross and a slanted driveway. We are open year-round but make sure your tires can handle our terrain. Our driveway is immediately off Ontario Heights Rd. Google sometimes tells people to turn on Grand View Lane. Do not do this as there is no access to our property from that direction. We have a 300-gallon trash bin next to our mailbox that says camp host. Our driveway is immediately across the road from there. The gate is latched but not locked on the left side. Initial fee covers a spot for one sleeping structure. Add any additional tents/rv/vehicles used for sleeping. You can add extra sleeping structures under the extra tab. A small somewhat muddy creek runs through the front of the property year-round. The water is clearer during the winter and spring months. Cleared spots in this area are available in the non-snow months are small so only tent camping in this area is recommended. It is densely wooded. We do have goats in this field, but they are generally shy. Oregon has an invasive poisonous weed called Water hemlock. If you plan to camp in this area, please familiarize yourself with this plant so you can avoid it. Camping areas have been cleared of this plant but if you wander along the creek you will encounter it. Other camping areas that people have liked are up top by the top field gate, or down in the field that our large chicken coop is in. There are no large animals in those areas, but chickens do make noises. Up top we have roosters that make noise about 5 am. The lower field on the right is the quietest. If you have children camping near the house is recommended. The bridge at the entrance to our property is 11' wide, which should allow a standard 8' RV to pass into the property. If you own an extra-wide RV's you should check its width before booking. Extra-wide RV's can park outside the property if you just need a place to park. Look us up on Facebook under Micone Ranch. See daily life events and animals! :)

The best camping near Lake Owyhee State Park guide

Overview

About

Looking for a remote recreational experience? How does camping on the shore of a secluded desert canyon lake sound? Owyhee reservoir is a 53-mile long lake filling a narrow, deep canyon brimming with colorful volcanic rock formations. You won't find pay phones or cell phone service at the park. Potable water is only available April-October.

Bring your boat or kayak, because that's the focus at this picturesque oasis. Floaters, fishers, swimmers, and skiers are rewarded with cool, clear water. There's a year-round boat ramp (water level permitting.) The park is very short on shade.

McCormack Campground offers 29 electrical sites with water and walk-up camping in eight tent sites. Indian Creek Campground has 21 electrical sites with water. There are two cabins and a dump station.

The road in is very narrow and steep. It's a real challenge if you're towing a large trailer or driving a big RV. But if untamed open spaces and high desert rocks stir your heart, you'll love it here.

Notable campgrounds

  • McCormack Campground: Offers electrical sites with water, tent sites, and modern comforts like hot showers and an RV dump station.
  • Indian Creek Campground: Features electrical sites, cozy cabins, and a boat ramp, with firewood and ice available seasonally.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book your spot online up to 6 months in advance to secure your ideal camping dates.
  • For a spontaneous trip, consider first-come, first-served camping, but arrive early to increase your chances of getting a site.
  • Check the park notices for current conditions to plan your stay around optimal campground availability.
  • Explore nearby camping options if your preferred campground is full, ensuring you don't miss out on the Lake Owyhee experience.

When to go

The best time to visit Lake Owyhee State Park is between March 1 and November 14, when the campgrounds are open and fully operational. Summer months offer warm weather perfect for boating and fishing, but be mindful of water levels affecting boat docks. Off-season visits can be peaceful, but services like potable water may be limited.

Know before you go

  • Prepare for limited connectivity; there are no pay phones or cell service, ensuring a true escape from the daily grind.
  • Check the Bureau of Reclamation website for water levels before planning boating activities.
  • Remember, this is a remote park; the nearest emergency services are 33 miles away in Nyssa, with the closest hospital in Ontario.
  • Adhere to park rules and boating safety regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.
  • Drive cautiously on the narrow roads leading to the park, especially when sharing the road with campers and boats.
