Pondside Campsite
in Underhill Forest and Farm, New YorkNice hosts. Beautiful property.
ZiegenVine Homestead - tent site
in ZiegenVine Homestead, New YorkThis is a great site! You can see for miles up the Southern Tier valleys. The hosts are the nicest people. Their goats are adorable.
The sites are far enough away from each other that it makes you feel like you have the entire mountain to yourself. We rented the cabin and when the host described it as "rustic" we were initially hesitant. But it was cozy, with a brand new wood stove, and a porch. It was about 16x24' big. The wood to make the cabin came from trees right on the property. Talk about ecological! You can tell the family really cares for their land.
The camps are about a hundred yards from the road over the top of a hill. You may be able to drive to the sites if you have a high clearance 4WD, like a pickup. An AWD sedan might get stuck. Definitely ask the host about driving to your site well in advance of plans if that's important to you. But it isn't a far walk, and there may be other accommodations available. Getting stuck and digging ruts into their land would be a shame.
The hosts live right on the property, and we are real jealous! They were amazing people. We had a fantastic time. Hope to get back at some point.
Thanks for letting us stay!
Site 1 - Finger Lakes at it's Finest!
in Woodsedge Retreat, New YorkWe really enjoyed our stay at the "Love Shack"! Kip was very responsive and helpful about answering any questions we had. My husband and I (and our dog, Epi) only had time to stay for a night but we would've happily stayed longer if we could've. We were warned by Kip that the cabin was "rustic" (no heat/electricity) ahead of time. So I had low expectations, but the "shack" was bigger than I thought it was going to be, with a full sized bed, couch and a little table and chairs. It was very clean! The views of the open field, surrounding pine trees and quiet little pond were wonderful. We loved the privacy that the little campsite provided. We will definitely plan to return!
