Between the primitive seclusion of the Big Rock loop (four miles from the main area) and the bustling array of watersports to be had at the Dixie Campground, you’ll be hard-pressed to pick a spot to pitch your tent. Dixie offers yurts and cabins on the quiet outskirts of the tent-and-RV zone, while a third loop, River’s Edge, offers ADA accessible tent pads.
High up in the mountains, East Canyon is a great escape to cool waters on hot Utah days, and it’s just a short 28 mile drive from Salt Lake City. While you’re there, be sure to hike the Mormon Pioneer Trail, which Mormons used in the 1800s to relocate from Illinois to Utah! That stretch of trail was also home to the Pony Express and the Donner Party at different points in history, a perfect backdrop for some juicy campfire ghost stories…
