**IMPORTANT INFORMATION**
Cracknback Campground is situated almost half way between Kempsey and Armidale shires. They are each responsible for this road. The boundary between the two shires is at Blackbird Flat - which is 12 km from us towards Kempsey. The Armidale Shire section of road is officially closed (though not policed). We are obliged to pass on this information as it must be your decision whether to drive on Armidale Shire Road. There are also old signs still up saying road closed/landslip/turn around etc.
Our working farm is located between Kempsey and Armidale at Lower Creek in mid-north NSW. We have grassy campsites right on the beautiful Macleay River, which is famous for Bass fishing, kayaking and swimming.
*When you come here, our home is your home. Please respect the pristine wilderness and leave no trace. Clean up your camp and take your rubbish home.

This is our most popular site located 2km from the farm house. Featuring a covered dinning area with magical views looking over Swamp Oak Creek, only a few metres from your kitchen we have our custom made fire pit with a selection of cooking methods for those hearty meals, secluded swimming holes reserved for this site and your own compost toilet. Due to this site being kilometers from anyone it is perfect for the relaxing get away without coming in contact with a sole.

Top Dam - Site 1
Nestled among the trees on the top side of our 3 acre dam this amazing location has another of our custom fire pits for those nights around the fire and also features various accessories for different cooking styles. Enjoy a swim in the dam or a relaxing afternoon of kayaking then cast in the fishing line and try your skills at reeling in one of our rainbow trout or silver perch, you can even throw out a yabby net to catch a few yabbies. Why not spend an hour or two stolling around the various walks we have on offer, or join us for the afternoon feeding of our petting animals. This site has access to rain water, shower and toilet.

Bottom Dam - Site 2
This site is located on the lower side of our 3 acre dam this great location has another of our custom fire pits for those nights around the fire and also features the same accessories for different cooking styles. All of the features of site 1 are accessible from this site - swimming, kayaking and fishing. This site is the closest to the toilet and shower.

Located just outside Bendemeer, our property features 21 peaceful acres with frontage to the beautiful McDonald River and a nice flat shaded area for camping.
This is the perfect getaway spot to relax, complete with platypus, wombats and amazing bird life, fishing for trout and yellow belly. Lots of kayaking and swimming in summer, and plenty in winter too if you're brave!).
We're around 30 mins from Tamworth where you can find all the supermarkets and supply stores to meet your camping gear needs, and there's lots of great cafes and restaurants too.
Power is available if required but not next to the river.
Camp next to the river (4WD access only) with your tent or rooftop set up or park uphill overlooking the river with your caravan or motor home, it's only a little further away (100 metres) with power available.
Campfires allowed at both locations ( fire season permitting) you will need to bring your own wood.
We welcome self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/ shower. Rain water is available for campers and caravans as required, and there is access to rubbish facilities.
Your well behaved pet is welcome to camp with you.

"Glendawn"

"Glendawn" is a small farming/ cattle grazing property with many beaut spots for camping. There are 2 sites with access to power and a few others without. It's a great place to get away but not too far from town. Fire pits and some firewood provided.
We have a powered site in the old Woolshed. The Woolshed has had some modifications. It has a camp kitchen, hot and cold running water, toilet & shower. There is a fridge, toaster, kettle, microwave, gas BBQ, outdoor fire pit, chairs, power and lighting. Large central area indoors. Its a delightful spot in the paddock to enjoy being "in the country".
The woolshed itself is 2WD accessible. In the winter months its really quite cold overnight. There's a great outdoor firepit and I provide firewood for $10. There's a patio heater too and its 8kg gas cylinder costs
$30. I will provide the first one.
This venue has been popular for families 'plugging in' their vans and for others to roll their swags out either inside the shed or under the stars. Privacy and peace and quiet in abundance here.
We also have unpowered camping in the paddocks. There are a few places with shade near a dam, by the old hayshed, or on a hill with views over the valley, excellent sunsets and a clearing for camping, 4WD accessible.
Children under 12 stay for free on unpowered sites!

The Kentucky Family Campsite is 4 acres of flat countryside for you to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature whilst being only a short drive from the essentials (3km from a general store). A world renowned gin distillery offers tastings (and food on weekends) or 15 mins to the township of Uralla for a great pub meal, supermarket, bakery, butchery or cafes, and we're 40 minutes to the regional centres of Armidale or Tamworth.
There are sites under shady trees or in an open field. The camp area has views of fields and a small dam. It is a quiet setting but with conveniences close by. Friendly hosts who are happy to help with whatever is needed or offer guidance on places to visit.
You need to be a self-contained camper with your own camping toilet/shower, and drinking water. Whilst amenities are basic the property is being improved all the time so it is more suited to self contained at present.
The nearby village offers a licensed general store and cafe for supplies and a distillery where you will be amazed by the selection of tastings (both liquor and food). Further up the road Uralla has all the extras you might want, with cafes and hotels, bakery, butcher, IGA supermarket and much more.
Picturesque foggy mornings will greet you and stunning sunsets will delight you over a glass of wine or beer at the end of each day, as you listen to the crackling of your campfire.
Tents, swags, caravans, motorhomes, camper vans or natural star gazing sleepers sleepers all welcome. This campsite is 2WD accessible.

Our beautiful property is located near Inverell, featuring 1,850 acres of gently sloping farmland edged by mountains with beautiful eucalyptus bush. There is a big dam and yabbies in the creek. We have a range of fruit trees which you are welcome to help yourself to fruit when in season.
The mountains have some amazing big boulders which you can view and climb when going for a hike.
You have an option to camp at the shed where there is a generator for power (lighting) and toilet amenities. This area is generally flat and can accommodate any type of camping vehicle.
There is a shed to provide shelter for your food prep etc. There is a sink under the awning but you will need to carry water in a container to wash dishes. Outside there is wood-burning BBQ the camping paddock is fully fenced in .
For 4WD enthusiasts, there are good camping spots at the top of the mountain ridge (you will need to bring your own camping toilet/shower amenities)caution boggy when wet .
You will need to bring your own fresh drinking water supply and unleaded fuel to run the water pump and generator.
We have secure cattle yards as a holding space if holidaying with your horses (please see Extras for horse facility fees).
Enjoy scenic horse rides around the valley and relax in front of the campfire by night. Dogs on leashes are welcome.
There is no phone reception on site - you may get lucky with some on the big rocks above the dam. There is good reception up Reynolds Road.
There is a pub in Bundarra where meals hospitality and spending time with the locals and a corner store 25km away at Bundarra, and all shops and amenities are available 75km at Inverell.

New Valley Dreaming

This cattle and sheep property in New Valley, half an hour south of Inverell, is raw and beautiful, with New Valley Creek running through it, swimming holes, and waterfalls. Newly laid trails make exploring the property easy, from valleys to hilltops. If you are looking for a natural wonderland, where you can enjoy Australian bush camping at its absolute best, this is it. The property is so spectacular, that parts of it have even been featured on TV's Farmer Wants a Wife.
The terrain is rugged and hilly, but the host has created easy access to several excellent, grassy camping sites some exclusive to one group at a time, others around the large dam but still with plenty of space. They all have good road access for even 2WD, provided they have good clearance.
The creek and rocks are stunning and will provide hours of fun. Fishing tours are run on the property at an extra cost, it is strictly catch and release and must discuss it beforehand with the host. We do not permit hunting as we want our guests to have and enjoy the tranquility and space.
Please note, that our Farmer Wants a Wife site has a long-drop toilet and designated fire ring, however, our other sites are for completely self-contained campers only.
If you are visiting during the shearing season, you are welcome to come and check it out for an insight into farm life!
Pet friendly, but only small breeds, and must be kept on a lead at all times. Please discuss bringing your dog with the host before booking.
Campfires are ok provided you BYO firepit, and they are kept small and manageable. There is plenty of fallen timber you are welcome to collect for firewood. Strictly no cutting down of trees. No campfires during fire bans, or when conditions are not favourable.
Whilst fishing tours are possible on the property, you must discuss your interest with the host prior as there are important rules around this and is , it's strictly catch-and-release only. We do not allow hunting of any description so that our visitors can have a quiet and relaxing stay without interruptions.
Just five minutes up the road is Green Valley Fun Park with a huge playground, jumping pillow, animal walkabout, museum and 18 hole mini putt. So plenty to keep kids entertained both on and off the property!

Encircled by state forests and national parks, Armidale is the gateway to New England’s High Country, where the lush landscapes provide a backdrop for outdoor activities. Once you’ve seen the heritage buildings and visited the art galleries in town, head out to hike through canyons, see waterfalls, and go wine tasting at cool-climate vineyards. There are plenty of ways to get on the water, whether fishing from the shore, cooling off with a swim, or exploring by canoe. Stay at the tourist park in Armidale or discover secluded bush camping grounds in the surrounding national parks.
Where to go
Western Tablelands
West of Armidale, the forested slopes and farmlands of the New England tablelands provide plenty of options for campers and bushwalkers. Visit the gold rush town of Bingara and try gold panning along the Gwydir River, enjoy tranquil bush camping in the Warrabah National Park, or camp by Copeton Lake, where you can swim and enjoy water sports in the summer months. Further east, hike or mountain bike through the ancient volcanic landscapes of Mount Kaputar National Park.
Waterfall Way
The scenic 210-kilometre Waterfall Way driving route runs east of Armidale all the way to Coffs Harbour on the NSW coast. Taking around three hours to drive (not accounting for stops), this is a day trip to be savored. Hop out to admire five waterfalls, including Chandler Falls and Crystal Shower Falls, enjoy hikes in the Dorrigo and Cathedral Rock national parks, and spot platypus along the Wollomombi River.
Eastern Tablelands
East of Armidale, wild rivers and rainforest-clad gorges hug the slopes of the eastern tablelands. Hike or horseback ride through World Heritage-listed rainforest in Washpool National Park, go white water rafting in the Nymboida National Park, or enjoy fishing, swimming, and canoeing in the Guy Fawkes River National Park. Campsites are dotted along the riversides, some of which are reachable only by canoe or 4WD.
When to go
Temperatures rarely hit extremes in the New England Tablelands, so outdoor activities are enjoyable year-round. Summer (December through January) is the best time for camping by the riverside, when it's warm enough to swim and enjoy water sports. Visiting in late spring means you’ll avoid the biggest crowds and see the hillsides blooming with wildflowers, while autumn transforms the bushlands with colorful fall foliage. Winter evenings can drop below 10°C, so wrap up warm if camping.

- Armidale has bus links to the surrounding towns, but you’ll need a vehicle to explore the tablelands and national parks.
- Armidale has a selection of shops where you can pick up camping gear and stock up on supplies.
- Fire bans are common in New South Wales during summer and dry periods, so check local recommendations before lighting a campfire and always use designated fire pits.
- A permit is required to camp within NSW’s national parks, and campsites must be booked in advance.
