Platypus Bush Camp

20 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents5 acres · Finch Hatton, QLD
Hi Everyone and Welcome to our home and a very special property called Platypus Bush Camp. The property has been operating as a bushcamp / rainforest retreat for 40 years and from what we hear regularly it is one of Australia's most unique campsites and it feels nice too :) The bushcamp feels like you are going back in time and has a hint of Asia / South America with the building style and nature but you are in the Aussie rainforest / bush and then we trow in some country hospitality and humour so we can all enjoy our time. There are 4 creeks that flow all year into an absolutely stunning swimming hole that is the largest and deepest in Finch Hatton Gorge. We are off grid but with all the modern amenities like flushing toilets, stunning hot showers with rainforest views (if you like), large fully equipped camp kitchens with everything you need, there is even a pizza oven and usb charging ports and you can see and hear the water from the kitchens and the dining areas. Accomodation options include:
 - 10 unpowered sites available which suit a variety of set ups including sites with your own private deck looking over the creek, shaded sites and sites with sun for solar - please refer to each site description for specific site size and photos. - 6 unpowered tent sites in our grassed where the main fire pit is located - no vehicles are permitted on the grassed area but parking is close by. - 3 private creekside huts / tree houses with stunning views, comfortable beds and bedding. Pets are welcome - as long as they are well behaved and owners clean up after them. There is a central fire pit with seating and cooking plate and an undercover fireplace / dining room as well if there is any rain or bring your own fire pit and use at your site. The property is located in the Pioneer Valley just outside Mackay, Queensland. We are 2 kilometres from the breathtaking Finch Hatton Gorge in the Eungella National Park. Just 1 hour drive from Mackay and 2 hours from Airlie Beach and the drive here is beautiful too. Two or three nights is a good amount of time to be able to explore the area including Eungella National Park, Finch Hatton Gorge (Araluen Cascades & Wheel of Fire) while still having time to relax at the Bushcamp. It will be nice to meet you. Shane and Family.

Jandarra, Tallebudgera Valley

7 sites · Lodging, Tents135 acres · Tallebudgera Valley, QLD
Jandarra Farm offers a comfortable and peaceful camping experience on a working farm in the Gold Coast hinterland. Certified through Ecotourism Australia, Jandarra’s goal is to model and inspire responsible ecological stewardship and foster harmony and creativity to build a regenerative and abundant future. Unfortunately, camping will cease on the 24 December 2024 when the property will be prepared to handover to new owners. We welcome you to come stay before then. Jandarra means 'place of peace' and we honour this by having a maximum of 6 campers at a time. Guests can visit the rockpool, take a self-guided walk through the rainforest, book a sauna (see Extras), and enjoy a conversation around the campfire under the stars (BYO firewood or see Extras). Take a short, hot shower with a view of the hills, toilets and a camp kitchen (no microwave or fridge) inside a rustic barn with tables and chairs. Starlink is the newest additon to the farm though may not have coverage in the camping areas. Telstra has some coverage. The 135-acre farm in Tallebudgera Valley is home to cattle, chickens, worm farms and bee hives, plus local wildlife. Guests are invited to learn about regenerative agricultural practices such as how Jandarra is managing cattle to build soil biology and rebalance nature, using holistic management practices - moving the cattle every day using electric fences (to replace the predators) and small paddocks (26 of them actually). EXTRAS - We offer a range of Jandarra Experiences including: - Pop-up trailer, BYO linen (fully set up on arrival, sans linen) - Lomi Lomi massage at a time to suit you (See notes in Extras - $125 for 60 mins) - Firewood from farm $15 per crate - Jandarra organic eggs $11 ECOTOURISM CERTIFIED CAMPING Jandarra is one of two Hipcamp sites to be certified through Ecotourism Australia. This certification assures travellers that they are booking high-quality eco experiences. Our goal is to model and inspire responsible ecological stewardship and foster harmony and creativity to build a regenerative and abundant future. There are many places to wander, sit and listen. Over 90 bird species have been listed here. Jandarra is a registered Land for Wildlife property and we ask all guests to be mindful of wildlife and farm animals when moving around the property. SUSTAINABILITY The caretaker of this property co-founded "Boomerang Bags", a not-for-profit organisation raising awareness of plastic pollution through community engagement. There are over 1200 communities globally diverting material from landfill and creating habits of reuse rather than single-use. Therefore, drumroll...please bring reusable rather than single-use (eg beeswax wraps instead of cling wrap, real containers rather than takeaway) and take home any rubbish (you won't find any bins except for the food scraps). ABOUT REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE Jandarra is the 40th property in Australia to undertake the Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV) Process through the Savory Institute. EOV was developed in collaboration with leading soil scientists, ecologists, agronomists and an extensive network of regenerative land managers around the world. EOV is a practical and scalable soil and landscape assessment methodology that tracks outcomes in biodiversity, soil health, and ecosystem function (water cycle, mineral cycle, energy flow and community dynamics). Jandarra has 10 Short term monitoring sites plus one long-term monitoring site. By recognising both land regeneration targets and trends, EOV endorsement is bestowed as long as land health moves in a net positive direction with the third year monitoring event in April 2023 confirming the positive trend. We believe EOV gives the land a voice and through this process, provides us with feedback to make better management decisions. We welcome a conversation and to share more information when you visit. THINGS TO DO NEARBY - Walk the Ocean Track at Burleigh Heads National Park and cool off at Echo Beach - 3 km walk, swim and picnic at the scenic Gorge Falls (end of Tallebudgera Valley) - Stock up on supplies at the organic food pantry and organic sourdough bakery in Burleigh - Dine at cafes and restaurants such as Parlour (the closest decent coffee), Wazen Japanese and JFK Italian, less than 15 minutes drive from Jandarra. *No smoking or vaping on the property, please. *If you have a larger group wanting visit, please contact us directly.

Gumtree Dam Highlands

12 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents25 acres · Abington, QLD
We welcome you to our peaceful, farm retreat with our Scottish Highland Coos. We are 5 minutes out of Childers, Queensland. You will have plenty of room to yourself, there is potable water available and porta loos. We have a quirky shower facility now too made out of a horse float, this is only for guests who don't have their own shower; however, you are welcome to look. Now my new pets will have to be transported home on the back seat of my car 😂 We unfortunately have had to put our prices up a little as overheads are ridiculous. Weare flexible where you camp, so once you arrive discuss with us what you would like, privacy. full sun, near the amenities... or send me a message at anytime. Our address for your destination purposes is 106 Hatchery Rd Abington Qld 4660, however a booking is needed before arrival The Scottish folk pronounce it "Heilen Coos" so that's how we say it, I'm not spelling it wrong 🤩😆 Please remember this is our home check in is after 1pm and check out is strictly before 10.30am, we promise you will get your 'Heilen Coo' fix 😝 We have merchandise and firewood please bring cash. And if have any food scraps throw them in with the chooks or a coin donation towards food, no pressure but would be appreciated 😍 Feed times are usually at 4pm. You'll meet Kelvin the Scottish Highland Bull, Oakley who mum to Lucy Moo born 5th of February and Willow, mum to Ferdinand (Ferdi) born earlier this year on the 3rd of January, so two beautiful calves to watch doing zoomies around the yard, swimming in the dam or chilling under a tree 😁 Be mindful although they are friendly and gentle the mums can be protective, so be smart please. .Parents please supervise your children at all times, no running or screaming. We provide an exciting experience and expect you to help us keep it this way. Baz and Nige are our Nigerian dwarf goats they are such characters and sure to make you laugh. Our chickens are friendly and don't mind a cuddle. Just be sure not to squeeze, be rough or chase the small animals please. You are able to share your food scraps with the animal, but no onion, white potato or avocado. Please leave your pets at your campsite when visiting our animals; Otherwise you are able to walk them around the beautiful 25 acres with them. We have 2 dogs Jesse a blue heeler and Cane our Maremma, who are both very friendly. The Maremma dog is an Italian breed of livestock gaurdian dog he does bark a little at night if there is a fox or something around that might hurt our animals. Cane has been very successful at keeping all our pets safe. Guest's have told us they have slept through the night no troubles, in saying that sometimes he doesn't need to bark at all. If anyone thinks the barking might be an issue this probably isn't the place for you. We now have Percy the peacock 🦚 who randomly Honks and explores all parts of our block. Our Neighbours have fish farms, so you will hear the odd shot gun go off at times, just to scare the shags away from feeding in the ponds. We are very easy to get along with but excessive noise or bad behaviour will not be tolerated. Feel free to put on some music (quiet by 9 and off by 10pm) and have a few drinks by the campfire, but we want our farm to be a place where our animals and our guests feel safe and relaxed. Thanks for your understanding. Relax with a cuppa, unwind with a book or go for a short bush walk and listen to the kookaburras. All your cares will feel like they are a million miles away as you soak up nature here at our farm. Conveniently there is a dump point in at Childers at the rest area, 16 Cresent St. 6km from here. There are wonderful cafes and bakeries in Childers, an IGA and Woolworths. We are near Bingera National park, Cordalba state forest with an hour to some top snorkelling spots, also Drive passed acres of sugarcane and macadamia fields we are 45 minutes from Hervey Bay and 40 minutes the other way to Bundaburg. We love being so close to the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. We look forward to meeting you. Duane and Chrissy

Cathedrals on Fraser

109 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents24 acres · Fraser Island, QLD
Our campground is fully dingo-fenced, so you can relax and enjoy a true Fraser Island camping experience knowing the kids are safe. Unlike beach camping, you can enjoy a campfire in our designated fire rings (or you’re welcome to bring your own firepit – provided it captures its own coals). You will need a 4WD to get to Cathedrals on Fraser. If you don’t have one, you can always hire from Hervey Bay or Rainbow Beach. We offer a wide variety of on-site services and facilities including a well-stocked general store with hot food and freshly ground coffee, a fuel station, hot showers, laundry facilities, and much more! We also offer a variety of accommodation options to suit any budget, including cabins, permanent tents, and powered or unpowered campsites. Centrally located on Fraser Island’s east coast, Cathedrals on Fraser is the perfect destination for a relaxing getaway or an action-packed holiday. From the campground, you’re only a short walk to the beach with some of the Island’s best fishing spots and picturesque colored sand dunes. You’re also just a short drive from the Island’s most popular tourist attractions including Eli Creek, the Maheno shipwreck, and Champagne Pools. If you prefer a more relaxing getaway, the campground offers a peaceful sanctuary, allowing you to kick back and read a book or watch the wildlife – particularly the cheeky goannas and kookaburras. With 116 species of birds recorded on the property, including the elusive Black-breasted Buttonquail, as well as native orchids and a vast array of fungi, Cathedrals on Fraser is a nature-lovers paradise! If you feel like stretching your legs, we also have private access to the Corrigin Sand Blow. Cathedrals on Fraser is family-owned and run and provides all the essentials for a great Island camping experience! So gather your family, round up your friends, and make Cathedrals on Fraser the home base for your next Fraser Island getaway! Safe Driving on Fraser Island: Aim to travel two hours either side of low tide wherever possible. Ensure you are not driving on the beach two hours either side of high tide. It is recommended that you reduce tyre pressure before you get to Fraser Island. This is even more important if you are towing (don’t forget to reduce your trailer/caravan tyre pressures too!) If you are an inexperienced driver or towing a trailer or caravan, we recommend taking the Mantaray barge out of Rainbow Beach to avoid the need to take an inland track. Generally, the eastern beach route will be a smoother journey. During dry weather the sand at Inskip Point can become very soft and vehicles can easily get bogged getting on and off the barge. Tides and maps: Check the tides for your day of arrival and departure and book your barge accordingly. Be sure to allow enough time to make it up the beach during low tide, as Cathedrals is inaccessible from the beach during high tide. As a general rule, make sure you are off the beach two hours either side of the high tide. Permits: Cathedrals on Fraser is a privately-owned campground, which means you are not required to have a QPWS camping permit. However, all vehicles entering Fraser Island are required to have a vehicle access permit before arriving. You can get your permit online at the Queensland National Parks Booking Service. You will need a 4WD to get to Cathedrals on Fraser. If you don’t have one, you can always hire from Hervey Bay or Rainbow Beach.

Cabins in Queensland guide

Overview

It’s easy to find a camping spot to suit any interest in a state as large as Queensland. With 7,000 km of Pacific Ocean coastline and a richly diverse interior of everything from ancient rainforests to arid outback landscapes, you'll find plenty of options. Choose from some 1,000 national parks, forests and other protected areas, and a host of other camping sites. From the golden beaches and green hinterland of the Gold Coast in the south to the rugged loneliness of Cape York to the north, and the extraordinary Great Barrier Reef offshore, campers are spoiled for choice.

South East Queensland

With the state capital Brisbane as your starting point, head to Queensland’s first National Park, Lamington National Park (established in 1915), for cooler climes and ancient Gondwana rainforests. The south-east’s subtropical climate means lots of sunshine, perfect for any camping trip.

Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef

is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, with island and mainland camping to suit all, with a choice of 19 National Parks. Don flippers and snorkel and hit the water, explore the 165-million-year-old

Rainforest, or head inland to the wonders of

to camp near ancient lava tubes.

Sunshine Coast

Living up to its name, the Sunshine Coast basks in its many natural attractions, from 100km of beaches to forested hinterland. Spot koalas in Noosa National Park, take a kayak up-river to camp in the Noosa Everglades, or head north along the beach in the Great Sandy National Park. The volcanic peaks of the Glass House Mountains National Park offer hikers and climbers a challenge.

Whitsundays

From Airlie Beach, take off for the green islands of Whitsunday Islands National Park or stick to the coast, exploring Conway National Park, where you may be joined by rock wallabies. Despite its holiday atmosphere, it’s easy to get away from it all. The best islands for hiking and camping are Whitsunday Island and Hook Island.

Southern Great Barrier Reef Region

Straddling the Tropic of Capricorn, this somewhat under-rated region has much to offer. Visit in summer for turtle nesting and hatching at Mon Repos Conservation Park, or head offshore to Lady Elliot Island. The main towns are Bundaberg and Gladstone, but it’s worth checking out the coastal villages of Agnes Water and 1770 or heading inland to explore the trails and gorges of the spectacular Carnarvon National Park.
