Guests are required to be fully self contained with their own toilet/shower facilities and must take all waste and rubbish with them on departure. Site 1 is better suited for tent campers. The site is a turfed section containing picnic table and small shelter shed, fire ring and access to boat ramp. Site 2 is suitable for tents or self contained caravans and RVs, and is situated right on the water. Pets are welcome but please keep them restrained whilst on the property.

The forest is an oasis for bird life, koalas, echidnas, kangaroos, other animals and is great for walking. There is no water, power or internet provided. You must have your own toilet to stay here and be able to remove all grey water. Our regional council does not allow us to host swag/tent campers. Tents and swags may be permitted if accompanied by an RV or caravan, please ask us first. Virtue Farm is a council approved self-contained recreational vehicle ground. Arrival after dark is by prior arrangement only as we have no lighting on the farm. We are 10 minutes from Hervey Bay and 10 minutes from the K'Gari (Fraser Island) barge that leaves from River Heads. Our land is registered with Land for Wildlife. We would love to share our developing farm with you while you stay. We are building a productive, diverse permaculture farm incorporating a market garden, food forest and small volume egg production. Enjoy a convenient and relaxing base to discover the best of Hervey Bay at our 150-acre cattle grazing farm located just 3km outside of town, with plenty of space for campers. To access the farm, turn right off the Maryborough Highway into Chapel Rd, then turn right at the picnic table beside the bikeway, and do not drive over the cattle grid. We offer numerous camping sites on cleared land lined by trees, near to our gully and seasonal creek. Each site is private and offers plenty of space. Campers must be self-contained with their own camp toilet, but there is a 24/7 dump station just 2km away. A stone's throw from the campsites is access to the mobility corridor/bike path, which takes you straight into Hervey Bay and continues all the way past the shops to Urangan pier, offering 15km of ocean frontage to explore. Our farm is located about 2.5km from both hospitals (private and government) for any care that you may need. All specialists and consulting facilities are very convenient. Next door to the campsites is our fantastic local cafe, The Depot Espresso Bar, open at 6 in the morning. They're happy to take orders for our campers from 5:30 if you knock! It's perfect for hopping on your bike from camp, grabbing your morning caffeine fix, and continuing on the day's biking adventure. Campfires are permitted, but please BYO firepit, and there is plenty of fallen timber you are welcome to collect and split yourself. Pets are welcome too! Rosgrow Farm, 15 minutes off the Bruce Highway, offers secluded campsites set on a large tidal creek. There are plenty of trees and shelter. The creek offers fishing, crabbing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, boating and swimming. Paperbark Camp and Farm Stay is a perfect pit stop on your way to and from the Island or for a getaway from city life. The campground is located close to the road so you will hear passing cars traveling to and from River Heads. We have a large communal campfire ring set up, sticks from the paddock can be collected as kindling and firewood. Additional fire wood can be purchased and portable fire pits can also be requested for your own private fire at your site. Paperbark Camp and Farm Stay offers our guests the opportunity to pat and feed our animals during the farm walk and take a stroll thru our food forest and gardens upon request. You are also welcome to explore the camp area with our dam and lovely bush surrounds where you will find hidden treasures amongst the trees and camp ground. On our little farm, we have lots of quirky chickens (who lay the most delicious eggs), our beautiful horses, pet dogs, sheep, alpacas, pigs and miniature goats! Purchase local and fresh produce from 'The Hut' which is our located in the centre of our camp ground. You are only a very short drive from shops, beaches and attractions. The following shops are only 5kms away-Foodworks, Chemist Warehouse, Dentist ,Dr Surgery, Airport, BP Petrol Station, Bottle-Shop, Hairdressers. T Take a very short walk to the Pir'ri Reserve Walking Track where you can do a spot of bird watching or simply enjoy a stroll on the rustic bush tracks. Beautiful calm swimming beaches are only a 9km drive away. You may also like to visit our huge pier at Urangan, or take a walk along the bike path which stretches 17kms along the waterfront. You will also find a shopping centre with Woolworths in this area and other specialty shops (post office and retail). Plenty of takeaway available- KFC, McDonalds, Golden Chicken, River Heads Cafe for breakfast and lunch daily and pizza three nights a week and restaurants in the vicinity. River Heads where K’Gari Fraser Island barge leaves from is 7.5km from our camp and you are welcome to leave your vehicles parked up for a small fee. Families are very welcome however children must be fully supervised at all times as we do have a dam on the property. We do hope to meet you soon.

Virtue Farm is a 33 acre property overlooking K'Gari (Fraser Island). It includes 27 acres of remnant forest which will never be developed. The forest is an oasis for bird life, koalas, echidnas, kangaroos, other animals and is great for walking. There is no water, power or internet provided. You must have your own toilet to stay here and be able to remove all grey water. Our regional council does not allow us to host swag/tent campers. Tents and swags may be permitted if accompanied by an RV or caravan, please ask us first. Virtue Farm is a council approved self-contained recreational vehicle ground. Arrival after dark is by prior arrangement only as we have no lighting on the farm. We are 10 minutes from Hervey Bay and 10 minutes from the K'Gari (Fraser Island) barge that leaves from River Heads. Our land is registered with Land for Wildlife. We would love to share our developing farm with you while you stay. We are building a productive, diverse permaculture farm incorporating a market garden, food forest and small volume egg production. Our mission is to share sustainable production and lifestyle through education, tourism, partnerships and homestays. We operate all aspects of our business based on good moral ethics, honesty, and sustainability. Virtue Farm is 10 km from the barge to K'Gari (Fraser Island) and only 10 minutes drive to Hervey Bay's beautiful beaches, the Water Park, Urangan Pier, restaurants, shops and cafes. From your campsite, on our farm block, you will have sensational views to K'Gari (Fraser Island) whilst being surrounded by 27 acres of bushland that is reserved for nature and registered with Land for Wildlife. There's the added bonus of a range of fresh, organically grown produce to be harvested daily at a small extra cost. You will love the peace and quiet of our block and the huge array of wildlife that choose to call our place home. To preserve this tranquility, pets and rowdy groups are not suited to this camp site. You are welcome to camp in family and friendship groups. If camping in a group you can choose how closely to camp near each other. If not with a group you must be at least 20m away from other campers to respect their privacy. The camping area is a slightly sloping grassed paddock - you will find rocks and uneven ground. All vehicles must be completely self-contained taking all water and waste off site. We have a Containers for Change collection point (recycling bottles and cans) and other bins to collect recyclable materials and will happily accept compostable waste. We welcome you to Virtue Farm where we are creating a chemical-free, sustainably grown, productive, diverse, permaculture farm incorporating a market garden and food forest. The guest guide that we provide on your arrival shares a little more about what we do. Families, regardless of number of children are $35 per night maximum ( book for 2 adults and 2 children even if you have more!) couples and singles are $25 - extra adults are $5 per night.

Overview

Queensland’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed Fraser Island (K'gari) may be the world’s largest sand island but its landscape offers even more spectacular sights than the giant dunes for which it is famed. The scenery here is dotted with shimmering freshwater lakes, crystal-clear creeks, wind-sculpted cliffs, and lush rainforests, promising ample adventures from swimming to 4WDing and wildlife spotting. Fraser Island is also famed for its dingos, so campers with small children may want to opt for fenced-in campsites. You can visit all year-round but spring (September through November) offers the most comfortable temperatures, reduced humidity, and low rainfall. Plan ahead, especially during school holidays, as camping permits must be acquired before arrival.

Where to go

Central Station

Set inland, 20 minutes west of Eurong Beach Resort, and surrounded by rainforest, campers staying in Central Station can have a great walk along the banks of the freshwater Wanggoolba Creek and through the lush rainforest. Flora and fauna you may come across include the rare king fern Angiopteris evecta, which has the largest fern fronds in the world, as well as turtles and eels, and you’ll also be within easy access of Lake McKenzie, a popular swimming spot. The camping area, typically one of the island’s busiest, is surrounded by dingo-deterrent fence.

Waddy Point

On the island’s northeast coast, Waddy Point offers both beachfront (unfenced) and inland (fenced) camping areas with coin-operated hot showers and picnic tables, as well as capacity for camper trailers. Making Waddy Point your base puts you within easy access of some of the island’s top attractions, including the coastal headland of Indian Head (a good spot for watching dolphins and whales) and the rock pools filled with bubbling water known as the Champagne Pools. You’ll also find plenty of opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and hiking.

Dundubara

Dundubara is located in the middle of the 75-Mile Beach scenic drive on the east coast, halfway between Indian Head and the rusting S.S. Maheno shipwreck, which ran aground in 1935. You’re also within easy reach of Eli Creek, a popular freshwater swimming spot with a long boardwalk. Camping is available in a large fenced-in area behind great sand dunes and it's one of the few camping sites on the island that allows campfires.

Lake Boomanjin

Along the Southern Lakes scenic drive, the distinctly red-hued Lake Boomanjin offers a peaceful setting and opportunities for swimming and kayaking. The secluded lake is typically far less visited than Lake McKenzie, the island’s other famed perched lake. You can camp right by the lake at the fenced-in camping area with picnic tables and surrounded by forest: note that it is walk-in camping only, so there's no vehicle access to the tent sites.
