Weekend Trip to Wongalea Fishing and Camping

Lionel and Angela offer a beautiful, tranquil and picturesque camp site at Wongalea. The birdlife was spectacular and we frequently heard the slap of large fish on the river. Wild goats drank from the river opposite our site and kangaroos grazed nearby at dawn and dusk. Our grandsons were constantly in or on the water, in kayaks or swimming, and spent hours exploring and playing on the riverbanks. The toilets were basic but very clean ( maybe bring your own toot paper) and there were taps with river water suitable for cleaning muddy kids etc. Lionel and Angela were incredibly amiable and easy to chat with. We had three relaxing, enjoyable days in a stunning part of the world.

Great spot highly recommend. Anne and Phil where very accommodating toilet was well maintained. Great grass site. River had a constant flow was great for swimming and fishing.

Anne & Phil are the most welcoming hosts. They meet you at the gate and guide you to your site. Once you get there ……… WOW!!! We were blown away by the space allocated to each site and the pride Anne & Phil take in maintaining each site. The grass is mowed regularly and there are clean drop toilets or Porta loos for each site. Anne even dropped by with some home grown Zucchini for us which we thoroughly enjoyed with our roast dinner. Each site also has a fire pit and where we stayed, stoney corner, had a large & a small fire pit. There is easy access to the river which was refreshing for a dip on a hot day. There were also kayaks and life jackets available for us to use. We can’t recommended this camp enough, especially for a couple who want get away from the hustle & bustle of caravan parks, but still have the convenience of a loo. Thank you Anne & Phil for sharing your piece of paradise with us and making us feel so welcome.

Was a lovely flat grass spot, with splattering of trees, next time we visit will pack the gazebo for the midday shade. Only managed to catch a carp, but enjoyed our trip. Was loads of birds and wildlife to enjoy.

A lovely camp spot, great for all kinds of campers. Enough space for groups and families. The grounds are really well kept, there are toilets near each site and the river is good for swimming with kayaks available to everyone. A fantastic stop if you're near the border. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

We love coming here and have been a few times now! The unplugged bush relaxation is just what we need—when the biggest dilemma is deciding whether it's time to go for another swim or cast a line, you know you've found the perfect spot. Phill and Anne do a fantastic job keeping the grassy sites well-maintained, and the portaloos are always clean with toilet paper replenished daily, which is much appreciated. It's not a matter of *if* we’ll be back, but *when*!

Lionel’s place was great, he met us on arrival so we knew exactly where to go. Awesome views, peaceful and such a great location. We were able to bring our vizsla Louie who just had the best time swimming and running around freely. We loved swimming and camping here. Unfortunately a big storm rolled in but we will be back to enjoy this beautiful spot.

Out time at Wongalea was perfect! Well kept block right next to the beautiful river. We all enjoyed the relaxing time and the dogs had a great time too! 🐶🐶 Lionel and his wife were lovely and accomodating. Always up for a chat and much easier great!

Lovely place right on the creek! Directions were easy. Phil and Anne met us at the entry to show us our site and were awesome to chat with and love to see people enjoy their property. Ordered firewood and it was waiting for us upon arrival. It was great and burned well. Will definitely be back! Thanks so much Anne & Phil.

This was a perfect secluded area down by the river. It was extremely clean and the views were gorgeous, especially the sunset. Have saved it as a favourite

We loved returning to Lionel's campsite and would recommend others to try and visit. Lionel is the perfect host and nothing is better than sitting and relaxing in a picture perfect place.

'Bushland Hideaway' is a rural property with approx. 1 km of river frontage and is the perfect spot for small or large groups of families to relax, unwind and get away from it all in natures own environment. We offer clear blue skies during the day and starry skies at night, peaceful large grassy campsites beside the Dumaresq River surrounded by magnificent gum and oak trees shared with native wildlife. All our campsites are readily accessible for all types of vehicles, caravans or RVs.
