Bottle Tree Farm

Bottle Tree Farm is 10 acres situated on top of a slightly sloping hill which overlooks the surrounding mountains, farming crops and hills. We have a very old big bottle tree in the middle of our farm, which is magic. The sunsets are absolutely amazing here, so golden. The rural roads are lovely for an early or late evening walk on. We rent out a fully contained studio as well which is seperate and inside the farm fencing only for booked guests. You will be sharing the paddock with three beautiful friendly horses, roaming at their own pace. In the paddock there is also a little renovated shed turned into a cute outhouse called the Heart Shed. Which is just being finished, soon to be able to be booked. The farm is within a 7 min drive of two IGAs. Plus very close to all the wineries (10 km approx) and it’s delicious food and wines! It’s also the same distance to nearby Bjelke Peterson Dam for water skiing and water sports. Wondai has some gorgeous shops including a wellness shop with a magnesium float tank, antique shops and spiritual shops. There is a dairy museum in Murgon. A dinosaur and fossil museum about to open in Murgon too. Also a visit to the Ration Shed Museum in the Indigenous and alcohol free community of Cherbourg is very educational and really worth a visit and only 10 mins away. It has beautiful indigenous pottery and art too. The area I believe, is a hidden secret.

Crystal Waters Cabin is a cosy, private, renovated cabin nestled in the heart of Crystal Waters Eco Village. Set amongst an abundance of native wildlife, the Cabin is the perfect place to relax and unwind or get out and explore the surrounding natural beauty. There is a large north facing deck and a covered patio that opens out onto a large flat paddock, surrounded on all sides by pristine native forest. The Cabin has a beautiful outdoor bathroom with instant gas hot water, the shower looks out into the lush gardens but also affords total privacy. Crystal Waters is the perfect place to take a break from technology, having little or no mobile phone service on the property, however, with the flick of a switch you have wifi in the Cabin to use your devices and there is a wall mounted 40 inch flat screen smart TV with Netflix, etc. Crystal Waters is a prolific and thriving wildlife retreat and the Cabin is surrounded by an abundance of native animals and birds. Watch as the local mobs of kangaroos and wallabies graze at your doorstep every day and awake in the morning to a beautiful chorus of birdsong.

The Fishing Hut is located on our working Brahman cattle property. It is completely self contained and perfect for families. It has 3 bedrooms (one queen bed, one king bed, and a kids room with two sets of bunks) all fully air conditioned. The fishing hut sleeps 9 people, any additional guests will have to supply their own bed and bedding. Indoor kitchen including a dishwasher and an outdoor kitchen including a pizza oven and a BBQ. No dogs are permitted behind the The Fishing Hut where we have our cattle yards and our own dogs. The property is located in Scotchy Pocket farming district, 25 minutes north of Gympie.

Overview

A short hop from the beaches of the Sunshine Coast, the small town of Gympie has a big reputation. Discover the history of “the town that saved Queensland” at the Gympie Gold Mining and Historical Museum, take a ride on the Mary Valley Rattler steam locomotive, or follow one of the Gympie Heritage Trails. You can even try your luck gold panning along the creek. Once you’ve had your fill of heritage sites, head out to hike, camp, or mountain bike in nearby Woondum National Park. There’s no camping in the town itself, but campers and glampers will find options in the surrounding hinterlands.

Sunshine Coast

The golden beaches and azure waters of the Sunshine Coast lie within a short drive of Gympie. Head north to visit Rainbow Beach, enjoy 4WD beach drives through the Great Sandy National Park, then pitch your tent at tranquil beachside camping grounds. Or go south to Noosa Heads, where you can take a surf class, hike along the headlands, and tuck into seafood at an ocean-view restaurant.

Fraser Coast

North of Gympie, most visitors to the Fraser Coast head straight to Fraser Island. Drive a 4WD along 75 Mile beach, relax on the beaches of Lake McKenzie, and hike part of the Great Walk. Then, head back to the mainland to discover the home of Mary Poppins in historic Maryborough or set sail on a whale-watching cruise from Hervey Bay.

Sunshine Coast Hinterlands

The forested slopes and state forests of the Sunshine Coast hinterlands are the best reason to leave the beach. Camp by the creek in Mapleton National Park, hike beneath the distinctive peaks of the Glass House Mountains, and make a stop at the famous Eumundi Markets. Further inland, the Conondale National Park has hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails, plus a choice of bush campsites.

When to go

Warm temperatures year-round mean it’s always a good time to visit the Sunshine Coast, and it’s possible to swim and surf right through winter (June to August). Gympie’s biggest annual event is the Gympie Muster festival in August, which draws country music fans from all around the country—book your campsite well in advance if visiting at this time.

Know before you go

The Sunshine Coast has an excellent public transport service, but having your own car is useful for exploring the hinterlands and national parks.

Gympie has a good selection of shops where you can pick up camping gear and stock up on supplies.
Fire bans are common in Queensland during summer and dry periods.
