Tucked between the neighbouring towns of Rubyvale and Emerald, you probably won’t be surprised to find that Sapphire sits at the heart of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest Gemfields. Visit the Sapphire Gemfields, including a peek inside the underground sapphire mine, then try your luck fossicking for gems at Graves Hill and snap a photo with the Big Ring and Big Spanner. Active types can also explore the walking and cycling trails at the Sapphire Gemfields Wetland Reserve or head to nearby Lake Maraboon to boat, fish, and kayak. Despite its small size, Sapphire has a surprising number of options for campers. Self-contained caravans can park at the 48-hour Free Camp, while Sapphire cabin rentals and tent campsites are also options right by the sapphire gemfields. Alternatively, check into one of the caravan parks or tourist parks, all of which provide powered sites and on-site amenities.
