Your road trip into the Gold Coast Hinterlands starts here.
Whether you’re hiking in the Gold Coast Hinterlands or exploring the many national parks around Queensland’s Scenic Rim, Tamborine Mountain makes the obvious starting point for a road trip. Just an hour’s drive from Brisbane or the Gold Coast, the small town sits surrounded by rainforest trails and mountain views. Hit the road with your motorhome or caravan, stopping to hike to waterfalls in Tamborine National Park, visit the Tamborine Glow Worm Caves, or go ziplining, then add on a tasting at a local winery or a tour of Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation. Campers have a choice of campgrounds around Tamborine Mountain, ranging from quiet hillside Hipcamps suitable for self-contained campervans or caravan campgrounds with powered sites, amenities blocks, and a shared camp kitchen. The Hinterlands are a great spot to camp year-round, but book ahead over summer weekends and school holidays, as popular sites can fill up quickly.
