The bell tent is in a secluded patch of pine forest approximately 80 metres away from the main living cabins, which are hired out to other guests. Private and secluded but close to creature comforts if needed! A 6-seater traditional barrel sauna, ice bath, hot tub, studio and outdoor shower are situated on the outskirts of the cabins; that you can book private exclusive time to use for extra cost. The bell tent contains beds, sitting areas, outdoor lounging space and a hammock. A flushing electric porta-loo is right outside. You have your own BBQ and fire pit (seasonal) and access to the shared facilities at the main kitchen and full bathroom. The main living cabin is cosy and comfortable with an A/C for hot summer days and a roaring pot-belly for winter with open plan living area including a dining table and cosy lounge with TV and internet. The kitchen is modern and has a dishwasher, microwave and gas stove. When you hire the tent you have access to this if needed. The forest cocoons the cabins, there is a veggie garden for guests to access. Island Beach is a 3 minute drive away and Penneshaw is close enough to pop in for a coffee or pub meal. Retreat into nature or use our tent as a base for your Island adventures!

    Located on 2000 square metres of Native Bushland, this unique tiny home retreat has everything you need and more! With two comfy queen beds, a large kitchen area, a spacious bathroom and bench seated dining area and deck, you can sit back and enjoy the serenity by the seaside. Bedroom one is a loft area accessible via a ladder and the second bedroom is a convertible sofa bed located in the elevated lounge area accessible via a pull out step. The lounge room comes with a movie hub projector and pull down projector screen (which also acts as the blind). There is dimmable lighting throughout creating an ambient space with reverse cycle air conditioning, promising a very comfortable stay during both Winter and Summer. The Kitchen provides ample space for cooking up a storm, including a Chef Oven, Smeg appliances (Smeg coffee machine, kettle and toaster) double gas cook tops, large kitchen sink and fridge/ freezer. The bathroom boasts an extra large shower with a waterfall shower head and complimentary body wash, shampoo and conditioner. There are two decks, one straight off the house with an outdoor breakfast bar and stools and another large deck ( 6x 3m) is located a few metres from the tiny home with out door lounge seating and gorgeous views of the bushland.     We have completed the build of our Homestead after the devastating fires of January 2020 destroyed our original cottage. The Homestead consists of 2 separate units under one roof and is located in a lovely garden setting in the middle of the island. It is self-contained with the option of catering on request Unit 2 is fully set up for mobility-impaired and/or wheelchair access. We have limited Wi-Fi access and smart TVs. We are pet-friendly, so if your dog is well-behaved you are welcome. The space The Homestead consists of 2 separate units under one roof as we wanted to cater for large families or befriended families traveling together as well as individual people. We called unit 1 on the eastern side "Hammer's Cove" after a volunteer who helped us build for 7 months and called himself " The Hammer". Unit 2 on the western side is called Western River Cove after our favorite local beach. Each unit consists of a fully equipped kitchen for all your cooking needs, a fully operational laundry including a washing machine, dryer, and ironing options and several spacious living and dining areas. Each unit has 2 bedrooms with comfortable queen beds and French doors leading to the wide verandahs with a view of the countryside. Unit 2 is fully wheelchair accessible, the bathroom is open plan without barriers, and rails are installed. The bathroom in Unit 1 has a spacious shower alcove with modern amenities. The dining rooms are incorporated in the large kitchens, the living areas have extendable 2 1/2 seater lounges to cater to additional people as well as smart TVs and bookcases with games and books for all ages. The exceptionally wide verandahs surround the entire Homestead and provide 2 separate outdoor settings, a large gas BBQ, and several smaller seating options to enjoy the view from sunrise to sunset. This is a dream for entertaining and feeling at home away from home for any travelers. The Homestead is built adjacent to the AustralianRedGumGallery which is a fully operational woodturning studio and gallery where Jonny does his magic and creates amazing functional art. The gallery also has a pool table and dart board which our guests are welcome to use with care.

    Thank you Abbi and Matt for your hospitality! It was truly mind bending to receive such a warm welcome after a long day on the bike, and brought a huge smile to our faces. The campsite was beaitiful, peaceful and out of the wind (although the midges took full advantage of my slowness on the bushman’s!) Both of Ian and I were so aware that the effort you went to to make our stay enjoyable was not a requirement, but the an unfiltered act of kindness. It speaks volumes. Thankyou.

    We had a great stay at this Hipcamp! As soon as we arrived, we spotted an echidna which was a cool welcome. There were koalas in so many of the trees, possums running around at night, and even kangaroos hopping by. The campsite itself was really lovely, peaceful and well set up. It was a bit of a shame the river was dry, but that seems to be the case across most of SA right now. Still, it didn’t take away from the experience. Would definitely come back!

    Rosalie was a great host. Good directions and a friendly welcome. The site was perfect. Even though SA and Kangaroo Island is in drought, the site was picturesque and peaceful. Very quiet and at night very dark!! The campsite is on a working farm and the sheep loved to visit. The site is well located, only 20mins to Kingscote and many of the NE attractions.

    The site was peaceful as. We came in march so very dry and no water in the river. But that didn't bother us as we'll definitely be coming back in winter when everything is green and the river is flowing. Very thankful to Matt and Abbi for letting us stay.

    Loved camping here. So peaceful. Stayed 2 nights in march so very dry and no water in the creek. But we didn't mind. The weather was beautiful. Can't wait to come back in winter time when everything is green and there's water flowing again.

    The host is very nice and welcoming, the location of cottage is easy to be found. We had a wonderful time in the cottage. We are happy to be the first guest of the cottage, we can find almost everything we need in it. It’s not a modern style living, but comfortable, pet friendly, kids can have a walk after dinner in the farm, thanks Rosalie for offering us the stay on Kangaroo Island!

    Amazing space to stay, Sean and Kirsty are very accommodating hosts, dont hesitate to ask questions as they are very responsive with detailed instructions and recommendations. We stayed in the cabin, even though rural area with sheep running around, however toilet, shower is available and space is clean with enough appliances for you use. Thank you guys, we will be back!!

    Camp Cygnet offers peace and tranquility - a stark contrast to many camp grounds on KI where you are have less than a few metres between you and other travellers. We parked our van along the creek, under the shade of Eucalypts, and spent the afternoon sipping wine on a picnic rug, listening to birds, leaves rustling in the breeze, and the occasional bleat of nearby sheep. At night, the sky was splattered with stars, and the next morning a herd of sheep traversed along a path, as surprised to see us as we were to see them! Our little van has solar power and we have a chemical toilet so Camp Cygnet was perfect for us. Our only regret is we didn’t stay longer.

    Welcome to your dream destination!! We have two different locations available in Kangaroo Island with some options of sites in each. Below you can see details for our Farm stays or Emu Bay Hideaway camp spots. Check below to see what sites are currently open. Emu Bay Hideaway has 30 hectares of peace, mainly vegetated with Kangaroo Island Narrow-leaved Mallee (Eucalyptus cneorifolia, a nationally-protected ecological community). Kangaroos and wallabies are in abundance. It has a wonderful feeling of remoteness and seclusion yet is so close to iconic Emu Bay. Those with 4WD may choose sites overlooking Shoal Bay towards Kingscote. Alternatively, you may set up camp anywhere on the property. There is even one under-cover position with a concrete floor for those concerned about the weather. There are no amenities so guests need to be 100% self-sufficient (including BYO drinking water and toilet) and leave no trace. It is a wild block and only five minutes from the iconic Emu Bay, where the white sandy beach runs for 4kms, most of which is backed by 10 to 20-meter-high dunes. It is one of the best beaches on the island with crystal-clear water. Check with me before lighting a campfire - this depends on the season and risk. Dogs are permitted if well controlled (register visiting dogs with local council). IMPORTANT: I have very limited access to the Internet, only periodically every few days, if that, therefore, I may take some time to respond to inquiries.     Welcome to Marron Bush Escape, located in Gosse, in the Western River area (western end, near Flinders Chase National Park) of beautiful Kangaroo Island! This is a beautiful, remote, rural 250 acre private property, it is home to a number of sheep, features dams that have Marron and boasts the best that nature has to offer. Rest assured, you will not see any neighbours on this property; just picturesque landscapes everywhere you look! It is approximately a 1.5 hour drive from Penneshaw, where you get off the ferry. We offer powered and unpowered camp sites, as well as a bush, cabin. Camp fires (small) are allowed when fire restrictions allow. There is a fire pit that can be used when there is no fire ban, with barbecue plate and camp ovens for old-style bush cooking or cooking up your fresh organic Kangaroo Island Marron. There is a drop toilet at the back and external lights and an external kitchen sink with hot and cold water. There is one drop dunny and limited rain water (you are welcome to bring your own drinking water if you need extra). For your convenience, there are recycling and rubbish bins at corner of Snug and Colman’s Rd for all waste disposal. On half of our property we have sheep and lambs in the paddocks. Bring your camera, and you just might be lucky enough to see little lambs playing and even being born. We may also be shearing and invite you to see how this is done. The other half of the property is untouched natural scrub with grass and trees 12 foot tall. There are koalas, eagles, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and lots of other native animals and a creek with small waterfalls. In winter time the ground can be boggy, so a 4WD is desirable and will allow you to explore further. From the cabin, make your way down past the dams and go through the shiny gate at the bottom of the hill (please close the gate behind you). Here, you'll discover 125 acres of untouched Kangaroo Island wilderness with walking trails to explore. Keep an eye out for koalas, kangaroos, wedge-tail eagles, wallabies, large grass trees etc We also have two small lakes that you can have a picnic by or drop some Marron nets in for a fresh feed. There are weighing scales provided at the shed so you can pay for them. This is on an honesty system- so please do the right thing, as we have already been burnt from the fires. You must contact me if you wish to fish for marron prior to catching any. There are no shops or restaurants close by (stock up before arriving!) and you will need to travel down dirt roads but you will really have the opportunity to get off the grid, get back to nature and make memories in the stunning, untouched, Kangaroo Island wilderness! Local attractions include: Kelly Hill Caves Flinders Chase National Park Stokes Bay Cape Borda Lighthouse Middle River Western River

    Overview

    Named after its native kangaroos—a species unique to the island—Kangaroo Island is every bit the wildlife-watching paradise that its name suggests. Whether you’re hiking along rugged coastal trails, surfing and snorkelling at its sandy beaches, or exploring the bushlands by 4WD, there are endless opportunities for wildlife-spotting and bird-watching. Unsurprisingly, Kangaroo Island camping is all about getting back to nature. Snag a spot at one of the island’s seven state-run camping areas (two have powered sites); check into a holiday park or caravan park, or enjoy year-round glamping by renting a cosy cabin, sea-view cottage, or a luxury safari tent.

    Where to go

    North Coast

    A road trip along the north coast of Kangaroo Island will take you past soaring sea cliffs, sandy coves, and scenic vineyards. Stop to swim or fish along the white-sand beaches of Emu Bay, explore the rock pools of Stokes Bay, or hit the surf and check out the famous sunsets at Snellings Beach. There’s also great bird-watching around Western River and Pelican Lagoon.

    South Coast

    Outdoor adventures and wildlife-watching opportunities await along the south coast. Go sandboarding at the Little Sahara sand dunes, enjoy swimming and kayaking along the Harriet River, and spot sea lions at Seal Bay Conservation Park. Nearby, Murray Lagoon is known for its bird-filled wetlands, while Vivonne Bay and D’Estrees Bay are home to some of the island’s best surf beaches.

    West End

    Despite being ravaged by wildfires in 2019-20, the western coast is still the highlight of Kangaroo Island and home to some of its most scenic camping spots. Explore Flinders Chase National Park on a 4WD tour or hike the five-day Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail, admiring famous viewpoints such as Admirals Arch and Remarkable Rocks along the way. 

    Dudley Peninsula

    If you’re cruising to the island from the mainland, your first stop will be the ferry terminal at Penneshaw. Famous for its colonies of Little Penguins, which can be viewed on a night tour, the port town is also the gateway to the Dudley Peninsula. The eastern tip of the island is the spot to escape the crowds—head to one of the bushland camping areas along the Chapman River or snag a glampsite looking out over Hog Bay.
