Located on the John Muir Historic route to Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Westlake Campground and RV Park is convenient to all things Yosemite.
Between here and the park is Rainbow Pool, a well-known swimming hole that campers here often visit on their way back to the campground for a refreshing dip in the cool waters.
Coulterville was started as a gold-rush town. You can visit the museum and visitor center even try your hand at panning for gold.
Yosemite West Lake Campground is not what it claims to be. The photos are very misleading, the campground was full of trash, furniture, extremely dirty, very small. Nothing that it looks like in the ad on Hipcamp, I did not stay there. I pulled up and I left immediately. I was not comfortable staying in such a trashy campground.
Some of the directions through the app, via the directions button, as well as the posted instructions on the building which’s address is posted as the business’s address, list two different locations for check-in. Upon pointing this out once I’d finally found where to check-in, the host greeted me not with curiosity but with outright rudeness and a lack of willingness to hear where on the app I was referring to. It was so uncomfortable of a conversation that I ended up having to state that I wouldn’t argue with him about it. I’ve never experienced more rude behavior when checking into somewhere I’ve paid to stay that here. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you can find better nearby. Honestly, we could have stayed in Oakhurst and likely paid the same amongst the number of us splitting the bill and had a much less awkward and rude experience.
All that to say, I’m not sure this person was the host or the person they have checking people in, but the grounds were lovely for the process you pay, had nearby trash and even recycling receptacles, the sweetest pup you could ever be greeted by who played fetch with us for hours, and a lovely assortment of kitchen materials/tools to work with.
This stay was a solid 50/50 for me. We didn’t have to interact with the greeter again, and the laid-back vibe of the rest of the stay was ideal.
Great camping experience! Manager was very helpful with information about yosemite. The drive to yosemite was not bad at all. Plenty of fire pits, bbq grills with propane already hooked up and provided. Bathrooms and showers close by with hot water. Best of all, a friendly dog named mac comes with the camping experience to make sure you get to play fetch!
We had a lovely stay at Mac’s campground. It is less than an hour drive to the Yosemite West entrance and we were able to get an early start and have a full day in Yosemite. The restroom facility was clean, showers had warm water, and we appreciated the sink behind the restrooms to wash our dishes. We stayed in one of the many cabins and had no issues. The heater in the cabin was really nice especially during the winter season. Mac came by our site to say hello and was very friendly. I will definitely look to stay again in the future when making a trip to Yosemite.
