No, the property sits on an 8,000+ year-old sand dune called Trail Ridge, which features soft white beach sand, perfect on the feet. Does the river smell? Not at all How bad are the bugs? While we recommend bug/tick spray, mosquitoes/flies don’t overrun the property. Are there wild animals? Yes, wild animals can make an appearance at any time. Is hunting/shooting allowed? No, this is private grounds. BB guns and archery are okay with adult supervision only. Family-friendly? Yes! But please note that there is no lifeguard on duty, so watch children closely, as river currents can sometimes be strong. *Swim at your own risk* Are there stores/restaurants nearby? RVs allowed up to 50 feet. Water available but no electric or dumping. There is a dumping station less than 1 min down the road from us. Crooked River State Park is a 500-acre preserve located just north of the Florida border on the Atlantic Coast. It’s an angler’s paradise—bring your boat to put in at the ramp or grab a rental onsite. A full-service bait shop makes it easy to pick up supplies, and a dockside cleaning station means you can cook what you catch. Aside from the water, Crooked River is known for its abundant wildlife, birding, and hiking trails through piney maritime forest. Learn all about the park’s diverse ecosystem at the nature center, and visit a nearby tabby mill for a taste of local history. The park is also just down the road from the ferry to popular Cumberland Island, making it a good stop on your way to exploring the Golden Isles.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Reservations for all campsites are open year-round and can be made over a year in advance.
Dogs are allowed in cottages 1, 4, 10, and 11 for an additional fee, so be sure to book one of those if you plan to bring your pet.
If you need an ADA accessible campsite, book sites 22, 23, or 46.

When to go

Thanks to its mild weather, Crooked River State Park is pleasant to visit year-round. If you’re going fishing, time your visit for spring or fall for the most bites. Summer visitors should expect heat, bugs, and breezes, while winter campers will experience the fewest crowds.

Know before you go

Cottages are equipped with a screened porch, grill, picnic table, and cable TV.
Campsites are mostly shaded and have a table, fire ring, and grill, plus access to shared comfort stations with hot showers.
All persons over age 16 who plan to fish must have a valid fishing license.
