The best camping near Wallace Falls State Park

You’re going to get hamburger eyes! This 4,735-acre park just outside the town of Gold Bar on the shores of the Wallace River. It features panoramic views, mighty rivers, backcountry lakes, old-growth coniferous forests, and perhaps the biggest stunner, 265-foot Wallace Falls. 

If that isn’t enough, you can swim and boat to your heart’s content. In addition to the river, there are two lakes nearby (Jay Lake and Shaw Lake.) Seek out local wildlife like peregrine falcons or cougars (not the kind that buys you drinks). 

Hit the Woody Trail to head to the nine (!) dazzling falls the park is named after. Be sure to stop at the Middle Falls overlook. It’s the highlight of the hike with a panoramic view of the Skykomish River valley. You’ll even be able to see the Olympic Mountains in the distance.

To best experience all this park has to offer, there are private camping sites and cabins available for reservation.

The prime time to visit Wallace Falls State Park is during the spring and summer months, from April to September, when the weather is mild and the waterfalls are at their most vibrant. Winter can be challenging with slippery trails and limited daylight, so plan accordingly for a safe and enjoyable visit.
