I am re purposing what I can and collecting the rest for disposal as I nurture this land back to what it was meant to be, paradise. There is an outdoor shower available as well. Black Maple Farm

4 sites · Lodging, Tents6 acres · Harrowsmith, ON
For the last 25 years we have lived here on our 6 acres of property where our Maple Sugar Bush allows us to produce our very own maple syrup every spring. [Side note: The sugar shack itself has been on the property for over 40 years.] We also raise a small but varied collection of farm animals, grow vegetables, and operate a 3 generation (Mother, Daughter, and Granddaughter) Artisan Craft Business, that sells handmade "Canadiana Themed" Home Decor goods and Maple Products at our local Farmer's Market. ( Visit us on Instagram or Facebook @Blackmaplefarm) Our Farm is located on the very edge of the Canadian Shield, so most of the landscape is a rocky, rugged, and naturally wooded. Throughout the property are numerous short, looping, walking trails that meander throughout the Sugar bush, pasture area, 3 season pond, and our farm animal "homes". These trails are perfect for short nature walks, where you'll experience natural wildflowers and plants, see and hear song birds, small animal wildlife and of course, farm life too. We are also located on the edge of the Eastern Ontario "Dark Sky" Area, which means we have a very nice view from the edge of our pasture of the North Sky stars on a clear night, with very minimal light pollution. Our varied collection of farm animals includes; lots of chickens, (including roosters who DO crow in the early morning hours), miniature goats, horses, a couple of barn cats, and a dog. During your stay with us you are welcome to come learn about and interact with our animals and daily farm life, if you so desire, and farm fresh eggs and maple syrup are also available to purchase too.

Red Cedar Plains

4 sites · RVs, Tents110 acres · Prince Edward, ON
The 110-acre estate has been overtaken with Red Cedars at the front of the property, and also has a mature forest at the rear of the property. It has become a sort of refuge for wildlife. Deer, bunnies, and even Coyotes roam freely on what has over the past 20 or 30 years become a young forest. This is a place of quiet reflection. however, it is also a great place to reunite with loved ones over exciting conversations, music, and drinks over the flame of a campfire. However, we exercise a quiet hours policy starting at 11pm. No loud music or loud talking. We are in close proximity to the first and most prominent vineyard in PEC. (Wauppos Estates). They have some of the best wine you will find here, and spectacular gardens on the lake with a south-facing dock. Grab a glass of wine and wander the grounds. They also have a petting zoo, ice cream, and a market where you can grab food, drinks, or some fresh local produce. Nearby there are blueberry and strawberry fields where you can pick your own fruit. Right around the corner from us we have our favourite wine maker at Amanda’s Winery.

The best camping near Sandbanks Provincial Park guide

Overview

About

Sandbanks Provincial Park, outside of Picton in Canada’s Prince Edward County, is one of the busiest Ontario parks, and it’s all because of its sandy shores. Sandbanks Beach stretches 11 kilometres along Lake Ontario, while family-friendly Outlet Beach is shorter but wider. Hike up the massive sand dunes near Dunes Beach on West Lake, which draws swimmers to its somewhat warmer waters, or go canoeing or kayaking on the Outlet River. With more than 500 campsites in five campgrounds, with flush toilets and laundry facilities, Sandbanks accommodates campers with tents to large RVs. Don’t show up without a campsite reservation, though—this is one popular park.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for lakeside lounging: Outlet River Campground A
  • Best for families: Cedars Campground
  • Best for beach explorers: Richardson’s Campground

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Book early! You can reserve Sandbanks campsites up to five months in advance, and many sites, particularly the waterfront campsites in the Outlet River Campground, book immediately.
  2. Make reservations online through the Ontario Parks Reservations Service. Fill out your reservation form in advance, so you can press “Enter” the instant that reservations open for your preferred date.
  3. Cancellations do sometimes become available, so don’t give up if you can’t book on your first try. And if you have no luck at all, consider other provincial parks on the shores of Lake Ontario, such as Presqu'ile or Darlington.

When to go

Sandbanks’ campgrounds are open from late April into October. Campers crowd the park from June through early September, so plan a mid-week stay if you can during this busy summer season. In September and October, expect crisp, dry days and slightly fewer visitors, although weekends are still crowded. Many restaurants, wineries, and other businesses across Prince Edward County reduce their hours in early spring and late fall and close entirely from January to March.

Know before you go

  • Lengthy summer line-ups at Sandbanks’ entrances are legendary; check the park’s Twitter for current status. Campers have priority over day-use visitors, as long as you follow the check-in instructions in your reservation confirmation.
  • In foodie-friendly Prince Edward County, buy your produce at farmstands, find fresh breads and pastries at local bake shops, and source wine or beer from County producers. While alcohol is normally permitted on your Sandbanks campsite, the park bans alcohol around the Victoria Day long weekend in May.
  • Sandbanks has two cottages available to rent year-round. Near West Lake, Maple Rest Heritage House, a brick Victorian, sleeps eight, while the simpler Jacques Cottage, on Lake Ontario, sleeps four.
