I sold a business in Toronto and moved West in 1990 and drove all over North America looking for a new place to settle and raise a family.
While camping in the Kootenay's I found this oasis and bought it.
I have raised a family living totally off the grid since and love it.
The water here is so clean and and the air is so fresh is why I stay.
The night sky is so hard to explain it has to be seen to believe.
Come check it out and you will agree.

Great spot with many options for finding private spot to camp. Convenient access to washroom and shower. Hosts were attentive and after little confusion a checkin was eventually resolved, had a great stay - would definitely recommend.

Great stay off the beaten path!

Overall we had a great stay at Cornelius’s place. It offered great views of the mountains and stargazing beyond what I could have imagined. We had the camp area all to ourselves presumable the whole time. Getting out there was pretty easy once we did it. It’s one of those drives where you think you’ve gone too far and you haven’t gone far enough. For being so far out the road is shockingly busy, which was a little disruptive of sleep being in a spot so close to the road. That was the only downside. The Murphy's offer plenty of amenities and even threw in some free firewood. Which was a perk! If you’re looking for something closer to town this is not it, but if your looking for clean, fresh mountain air, a sky full of stars on a clear night, and the sound of a running river right next to camp, this is your place! We’ll be back in the future.

We enjoyed our stay at Cornelius' and wow were the stars amazing! We had car trouble earlier that day so arrived very late, but he greeted us graciously at the late hour and showed us to a wonderful secluded section to camp in.

I’ll start this off by saying, if you own a truck and RV worth anything at all, STAY AWAY FROM THIS CAMPSITE. In the description there literally NO MENTION of the fact this place is 11 miles down a dirt/gravel washboard road. There was not one time I was able to drive over 20mph. At all. Cattle guards and locals prowl the entire length, driving their ATV’s and jacked up Toyotas driving 50-60 and spitting rocks on your truck while flipping you off for driving slow…which you absolutely HAVE TO DO if you want to keep the filling in your teeth and the trailer attached to your truck. It was an absolute disaster. If you’re like me, who drops the trailer at the campsite and roams all day, why would you want to drive 22 miles round trip just to get to Cranbrook on a washboard dirt road??? We stopped about 20 minutes into the trip to look at the directions…and to see if we could cancel the reservations. No dice. The owner knows what’s up, it’s a 3 day advance cancellation policy. Huh…wonder why…
Go the to “campsite” which looked like a wide spot in the yard. Knocked on the door, went around the whole house, not a soul to be found. No direction on where to go, what to do, nothing. Nobody came out to greet us. At this point, after talking it over with my wife, we decided to cut our losses, turned around in the yard, and drove back to Cranbrook to stay at the overpriced KOA, which is a thousand times better than this spot. Chalked up our losses…
