Overview

About

At the top end of the Appalachian Lowlands, Yamaska National Park’s sparse woodlands aren’t famous for their towering peaks nor their strenuous hikes—they’re most appreciated for their tranquil trails filled with endemic flora and fauna. Réservoir Choinière is where the action happens, with boating activities and wildlife observation in summer, and ice fishing, tube sliding, and cross-country skiing in winter. Camping in Yamaska National Park is available year-round, with a handful of specially outfitted winter cabins, along with almost 200 non-serviced sites for summer stays.

Notable campgrounds

  • Les Parulines Campground: Offers semi-serviced sites nestled amid lush greenery, ideal for nature immersion.
  • Les Mesanges Campground: Features Étoile ready-to-camp sites, blending comfort with the rustic charm of the outdoors.
  • Beach Sector Nature Cabins: Provides cosy cabins with full amenities, set in the heart of the park’s activity area.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early, especially for peak season, to ensure your spot amid the natural beauty of Yamaska National Park.
  • Consider mid-week stays for better availability and a quieter camping experience.
  • Keep an eye on cancellations for last-minute opportunities to secure a coveted campsite.
  • Explore nearby camping options to maximize your chances of an idyllic outdoor retreat.

When to go

The best time to visit Yamaska National Park is during the summer months, from June to August, when all activities are in full swing and the weather is warm. Winter offers a unique charm with snowy landscapes, ideal for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, though some services may be limited.

Know before you go

  • Check the park’s website for any trail closures or safety advisories before your visit.
  • Remember to purchase your park access fee online to guarantee entry, especially during busy periods.
  • Accessible facilities are available for visitors with reduced mobility, ensuring an inclusive experience for all.
  • Be mindful of the park’s wildlife; observe from a distance and do not feed the animals.
  • Prepare for variable weather by dressing in layers and bringing waterproof gear, especially during transitional seasons.
