Okay considering it was cheap and last minute. Campsite is mostly concrete and right along a highway. The path to get there is too narrow and worn for an RV. We car camped in my 4runner. Other than that no complaints, it did the job.

Imagine unzipping your tent in the morning and the first thing you see is the San Jacinto mountains, the high peaks glistening in the early morning light above the beautiful town of Idyllwild nestled below. It’s quite a visual stimulation. That’s what I saw when I stayed at “SPECTACULAR RV & CAMPING RETREAT!!!” The host was also a great help when I had trouble finding the place. However…. Sight is just one of our senses. The other ones had a less than “spectacular” time. The Sound. Hmm nothing says peaceful and serene like the sound of traffic 30 feet away. Cars passing by on the main highway detracted from the sound of crickets or squirrels. The three acres are not so easily accessed and definitely not able to be camped on; the only real place to stay is the small concrete area, where there is little privacy. The ground was littered with broken glass and rusty hardware. The entrance to get in to this fine parking lot was a combination between a jeep trail and a narrow 3rd world mountain pass. God only knows how one would get an RV up the hill, a sprinter van could barely fit. Basically this spot while offering a good view, leaves much to be desired. It’s a last ditch camping spot and feels like a cash grab afterthought for whoever failed to develop a house on the land. If this is a Hipcamp then so is every rundown house and vacant lot that is for sale.

We needed a last-minute place to stay as everything else in the area was booked, and thankfully, we were able to book this spot immediately. The site was accommodating for our car camping setup, with plenty of space for tents or an RV as well. One thing to note is that the location is very close to the road, so there is some traffic noise. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we noticed quite a bit of trash on the lot. We picked up a lot of it ourselves to make the space cleaner than we left it. On the positive side, we were treated to some great wildlife sightings and had an amazing view of the stars at night. Despite the minor issues, we’d definitely consider coming back for another stay!

Site is on a main road and pretty tight for car camping but it’s only a short distance to get to the market for supplies : )
