This working ranch is the home of Children's book author Cowgirl Annie. It covers over 1500 acres where depending on the time of the year you can see cattle, horses, a variety of wildlife (deer, raccoons, beaver, eagles, owls, meadowlarks, ducks, geese, coyotes, snakes, and bugs.) You can fish, hike to the river, hills, or through cottonwood trees. The Badlands National Park and Wall Drug are about a 15 minute drive. Camping spots are within 3 miles of Interstate 90 and easily accessed. The black hills are aboout 1.5 hours drive. You can sit back and relax away from the crowds here on the ranch. Visitors in April and May can see the newborn calves before they are moved to summer pasture. Enjoy stargazing, listening to the frogs and coyotes. the sunsets, and sunrises are often spectacular. The smell of fresh cut hay will make you want to stay forever. Cowgirl Annie may even have time to visit with you about ranch life. There is a fire ban on the ranch. No pets are allowed. All campers must be self-contained units as I have no hook-ups or dump stations. You can park your camper away from others and enjoy the country views. A couple of movies about General Custer and the Battle of the Little Big Horn were filmed on the ranch, and this camping spot is the same one used as the staging area for all the personnel. You may get an upfront view of the haying operation. You can listen to the birds, frogs, and coyotes. take a hike and explore what the ranch has to offer. the river is close for those that want to fish for catfish or go wading. We have very little light pollution so stargazing is awesome. Sunsets and sunrises are often spectacular. April and May visitors can observe the newborn calves. The Badland National park and Wall Drug are just minutes away. The Black Hills attractions and Mount Rushmore are about 1.5 hours away. Cowgirl Annie may even have time to visit with you about ranch life.

This spot was a great stopover on my roadtrip to Montana! Angela was available and communicative, she even talked me through finding the site in the dark. It was peaceful and the composting toilet was a huge bonus. Would definitely recommend!

Authentic Beautiful South Dakota
21 ft campervan
We had a wonderful stay here. A perfect kind of Hipcamp - authentic, off the beaten path, a view into real life and real nature in South Dakota. Angela the host was generous in sharing farm views and stories. Our camp had wide open views across the valley into the hills, very dramatic skies, tons of birds. Even a brief hailstorm and rainbows! We have a camper van but we’re glad to also have access to portable toilet.
