The best camping near Miracle Beach Provincial Park

Few family holiday spots beat the Comox Valley’s Miracle Beach Provincial Park, perfect for sandcastle building, swimming, and lazing on the shore. Miracle Beach features spacious private campsites, several with RV hookups, group camping facilities, a playground, an amphitheater with BC Parks ranger programs, hot showers, a large picnic area overlooking the water, and a series of level forest trails. At low tide, rich tide pools appear on the beach, perfect for observing a marine life. Near the BC Parks office at the park entrance is a viewing platform and fish weir, both of which offer an opportunity to view the Black Creek, particularly in spring and fall when salmon are spawning. Miracle Beach is also a good place for birdwatching, and from the beach, visitors have excellent views out over the Strait of Georgia.

• Best for ocean views: Miracle Beach Campground features dozens of tent camping sites and RV spots near the beach.
• Best alternative: Saratoga Beach is just next door to Miracle Beach and features various resorts and well-equipped RV campsites.

1. Make your plans early to reserve a campsite in Miracle Beach Provincial Park. You can reserve campsites two months to the date of your arrival, beginning in March.
2. All campsite, group site, and group picnic shelter reservations must be made by phone or online at Discover Camping, BC Parks’ reservation portal. When reservations are not available all campsites function as first-come, first-served. 
3. Be sure to check seasonal opening and closing dates.

Miracle Beach is busiest in July and August, during the warm summer months. Consider visiting in September or October, when school is back in session, or in early spring as the weather warms up again. The campground is open from early March to November, with reservable dates starting at the end of April to September. 

• Miracle Beach Provincial Park is on the eastern side of Vancouver Island, on the waterfront midway between Courtenay and Campbell River, both of which offer amenities, shopping, and attractions.
• From the Lower Mainland, Miracle Beach can be accessed by BC Ferries service from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo. 
• Miracle Beach Provincial Park doesn’t have wifi, but cell phone service is strong.
• Most campsites have fire pits, but firewood must be purchased at the park office or offsite. Fire bans are frequent in the summer, due to drought and the risk of wildfires.
