Biking
For a quick ‘n’ dirty ride, test out the nine-mile flat trail at Fairfield Lake State Park. The route follows the entire lake, providing excellent views and several cool-off opportunities. Want a longer, bike-to-camp experience? A 4.5-mile trail near the entrance of the park brings you directly to primitive campsites.
Boating
Spend all summer long kickin’ it on the 2,400-acre lake at Fairfield Lake State Park. Between the scenic forest surrounding the water, the ample jet skiing space, and permitted fishing and swimming, you’ll pass those dog days of summer with ease.
Fishing
Because Fairfield Lake is warmed by the TXU Big Brown power plant, it becomes a fishing Mecca in winter. You’ll find tournaments every weekend from November to February, but the fishing’s great year-round! Stocked fish include the red drum, largemouth bass, tilapia, and catfish.
Hiking
Whether you’re in for a quick hike, lengthy trip, or overnight backpack, the trails at Fairfield Lake State Park are the best around. Find the 4.5-mile primitive camp trail near the entrance of the park or pack lunch for the nine-mile loop around the lake. The choice is yours. Just don’t forget extra water for those hot summer days!
Horseback riding
With over fifteen miles of equestrian trails, Fairfield Lake State Park is the perfect weekend escape. Choose between the longer Dockery Trail at 5.25 miles or the Big Brown Creek Trail at 3, or simply combine the two for a lengthy adventure. Both trails begin at the park entrance and parking lot, which means you only have to park once. Score!
Swimming
The super sandy beach at the designated swimming area at Fairfield Lake is what summer dreams are made of. Wade there for hours or jump right into the lake from your boat—there’s no wrong way to do summer.
Wildlife watching
Along with ample aquatic life, there is plenty of on-land wildlife to see at Fairfield Lake State Park. Go for a scenic hike to hopefully spot an elusive American classic: the bald eagle. Other animals you might come across include fox, deer, mink, and beaver.
