Such a great stay with a kind and wonderful host! This was a last-minute stop as we camped our way from Sacramento to SLC, and it ended up being a real highlight of the trip. Meeting other campers who shared the same love for wine, nature, and connection made the experience even better. Watching the sunset over the vineyard and the distant hills felt like a perfect moment. Would definitely stay again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay it was very laid back easy to find you can buy firewood there in person with cash they have farm animals at the entrance it’s pretty spacious we hardly saw our neighbors it’s so pretty and feels so secure because it’s someone property and not just a camp site they have flushing toilets at the entrance and trash cans at each site it looked like which was very nice we had a huge picnic table and a fire ring and some logs to sit on at the hold your horses site my daughter is 3 and can’t stop talking about camping now we will definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Walden Ranch

This was my first Hipcamp experience and it was a great introduction! Alan greeted us right as we drove in and he was a very sweet and welcoming host. There were so many animals (horses, cattle, peacocks, chicken, dogs, and more) and it was fun just walking around and exploring. The animals were very loud at night and I would recommend bringing earplugs if you’re a lighter sleeper. The dogs and pig are social and will come up to your campsite to hang out especially when you’re eating. We ended up using the provided canoes and paddleboat a few times during our short stay. At night, we saw a whole family of geese on the pond and were able to see them up close on the canoe! When we were there the pond was about 8 ft deep and there were life jackets available to use as well. Alan provides unlimited firewood for a set price, and the fireplace is communal. We ended up bringing our own wood and had the fireplace to ourselves even though there were several other parties camping. There is also a communal kitchen prep area and sink. The only unexpected situation was that we thought we would be 1 of 2 parties since only 2 sites are listed on Hipcamp, but there were other parties present as well. That left only one spot for us to set up camp at. Luckily every spot is flat and easy to set up in! Overall, we enjoyed our stay on Alan’s property and we would love to come back in the future! It’s a great value and perfect for a weekend getaway!

The site was clean and the views were perfect. Loved watching the bald eagles hunt and fish on the lake as they tended to the their babies. The recent work done to the restrooms was amazing.

This is the best camping spot within an hour of Sacramento hands down. Alan is one of the best camp hosts we have ever met. He provides an oasis for any family. We brought two toddlers and our baby and all the kids just loved the farm experience. The farm dogs are so sweet and friendly and there's even a pot belly pig! This sight has everything you need. Outdoor sink to wash dishes. Two fully plummed bathrooms with an outdoor shower, a fire pit and a small lake to go canoeing! We are already planning our next trip. Thank you Alan for the amazing memories. 🤙🏼

The painted animals on the trash cans are super cute. Host checked in via text, he was away while we were there. It was fine because I go camping to hermit. We booked this campsite to try out backpacking gear we borrowed from our friends. This was a nice base and there's lots of good trails nearby. I now know I don't like backpacking . I really enjoyed this campsite, it was very private feeling and well cared for. I'm looking forward to coming back with our regular set up.

A beautiful and clean campsite! An animal lovers dream. Kathy and Jim are so kind and friendly. They greeted us to show us the area and (with our permission) let their dogs greet ours. The site is extremely well maintained and very serene. Excellent communication with the hosts! If you are looking for complete seclusion, this is not quite that, as you can see other workers from a distance on the Animal Sanctuary. But it still has a very private feel and Kathy and Jim are very respectful of giving space. Lots of animal noises throughout the night and day, as you would expect for an amazing place like this. We loved it! Clean toilet with a place to wash hands. Covered kitchen tables and an enclosed dining space. Grill and small gas fire are for roasting marshmallows. Plenty of nice shade and a good flat area to pitch a tent. Short walk down from parking to the site but they have a wheelbarrow to make it easier to set up. Lots of nice hikes within an hour of the property. Our dogs had an absolutely blast. We hope to revisit this great site!

MOST GO! I loved my stay here!! Definitely add the "taste and tour of the winery" IT WAS SUCH AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! Aaron our host was so knowledgeable and passionate about his wine. I bought 5 of his bottles!! And I tried each one from the tasting. I also will be back to his seminar where you can create your own. His wine is vegan and organic. His wine is also naturally fermented which I LOVE! Will definitely stay here again but not in my camper van but in his yurts!

Welcome to Finnon Lake Recreation Area! Our lovely lake to discover. The night skies above Finnon Lake will reveal stars unseen in most parts of California. Enjoy searching for bullfrogs, and watch the flock of Canadian Geese fly in right at sunset as the horizon blends into the watercolor sky. This private lake supports the fire protection efforts of the Mosquito Fire Protection District and the firefighters of this community. Community volunteers manage the lake for the residents and the Fire Station. The primary funding source for the Finnon Lake Restoration is the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, which was signed into law in 2004 with a mission to support “efforts that improve the environmental, economic and social well-being of the Sierra Nevada Region, its communities and the residents of California,” according to its Website. If you have teenagers, they love it here! 1/2 Basketball court, cooking and foraging classes. Accommodations 1. The Enchanted Meadow Love Shack (sleeps 3) (190 square feet) 1 King Bed and 1 twin. It's about 200 feet from main farm house and traditional bathroom. The path to and from this unit is steep and a dirt path with many stairs. If you have a 4 wheel drive you can drive right up to the unit. Bring your own sleeping bag or sleeping gear. 2. The Love Shack Tree House and Tent site (sleeps 2) 1 queen bed and balcony that overlooks garden. There is a tree growing inside this unit. There are table and chairs so you can cook on the balcony or the bbq area about 30 feet from unit. So cool! Bathroom and cool shower are 50 feet down a dirt path. Additionally, there is an area to pitch a tent. For example if a family of 4 wanted to split up and 2 in treehouse, 2 in the tent area. There is an additional $18 per guest if you want to use the campsite in addition. Please bring your own sleeping bag or sleeping gear. 3. The Sunrise Suite (sleeps 2) 1 loft twin bed (must climb a ladder ) and 1 couch futon. There an area in front of the unit for 2 people to eat and sit. Common bathroom and shower are 20 feet away. 4. Enchanted Meadow with 3 Serenity Tent sites (max capacity 6) This beautiful spot is great for groups, couples and families. To access this serene, private, nature-rich area, be prepared to walk down a steep path. It only takes 5 minutes to walk down which is the easier part. Walking back up the trail you may feel winded since we are at 2,250 elevation. Best to pack a backpack with your gear if you don't want to make too many trips back and forth to your car unless it's part of your workout :) . There is an activity Teepee / Tipi and we encourage you to participate in the writing, arts and crafts projects! We have wildlife and bears may visit if you have accessible food. So bear-proof your food if at campsite or best to leave in car or farmhouse kitchen. When available, farm-fresh meals can be ordered and delivered to campsites. Otherwise you can prepare cooked meals up near main farmhouse. Other guests may be passing through on the nature trail during your stay but you have the ability to reserve the area as "Private" so no other guests will be visiting. $150/night for the 3 sites or $200/night to block off the entire meadow area for privacy. 5. The Big Deck Experience! (sleeps 2-4 adults. No children due to the height of deck and hot/cold tub) Enjoy breathtaking views of the Sierras, valley and forest from the balcony. Couch turns into a comfortable bed for 2. For additional adults, you need to bring sleeping pads for on the deck. Enjoy meals at 1 or both of the large dining tables. Play the gong and do some sound healing! This space is part of the main farmhouse (owner's residence) and has a beautiful 75 x 15 foot redwood deck with views of the Sierras. This area can be blocked off for privacy from 7pm-10am. At 10 some other guests may come to the area for brunch. This is a vacation spot, not just acommodation. The remarkable property is very hilly with pines and oaks. You can follow our driveway to the bottom and access the beginning of The Bear River which has a nice hiking trail alongside it or drive 8 minutes to the nearest boat ramp and 10 minutes to the town of Colfax where you will find gas, groceries, and restaurants. We have a beautiful spot where you will not see any neighbors so it is peaceful and private with gorgeous 360-degree views. It is also very safe! Bask in nature, quiet, and privacy! In summer there is a 3-night minimum for the cabin and dome. Ocassionally a two day midweek will pop up on the schedule last minute. To see correct pricing, enter your dates as they can fluxuate with holidays, weekends, and decreasing prices midweek.
