Risin' RV

6 sites · RVs2 acres · Atlanta, GA
Our 501(c)(3) Non-Profit campsite has soft opening under way! This means we don't have many frills, but we are by far the closest RV site to central Atlanta, and the only one on MARTA public transit (right outside the gate). We are a rare gem in this city. One of the last areas that have been allowed to return to nature after being farmed until the 1960s. We are surrounded by 100s of acres of parkland, and yet are only 5 minutes drive from almost everything you will need. You will see the hand cut terraces put in by the farm workers and then the forest has spent the last 50 years taking it back. Still lots of old growth trees around though. The county just purchased/swapped 50 more acres to go with the hundreds more under it's watch. There is a 14 mile concrete trail that runs behind the property and all the way out along the south river. Quite the hike or bike if you fancy a good walk. There is a 18 hole golf course, sports fields, public pool and YMCA type community center all along the trail and walking distance from the campsite. We are a 501c3 non-profit church that is still in the early days of it's mission. Your donation to our site helps fund our mission and keeps the lights on. We are massively focussed on permaculture as the only sustainable way of life and rapidly moving towards being totally carbon neutral. You will be up close on our early days and see our Solar Roof Cabin (a total of 300 panels and 70kW output when completed). We make a lot of our infrastructure from windfallen and site development trees that are cut and shaped on our own electric sawmill. Much of the rest of the renovations are done using upcycled and donated materials. We are working towards: Total energy and water independence Total structural material independence Food independence via aquaponic farming Providing solar powered refrigerated space to local food distros Providing local kids (and adults) access to training on permaculture and living with minimal impact on the planet. Teaching people so they can teach others and pay it forward. Come support our mission by staying with us. Help out with your building or farming or engineering skills if you like. Naturally tax deductible financial donations are always helpful and help speed our progress.

Wild & Free Farm

4 sites · RVs, Tents13 acres · Palmetto, GA
WELCOME, tent campers, RV campers and tiny house owners to WILD & FREE FARM! We provide warm hospitality, a beautiful camping environment and amenities to meet your logistical needs (bathroom access, a 30 amp and 50 amp hook-up and water hook-up). Our story..........We moved from an in-town Atlanta neighborhood to Chattahoochee Hills in 2019 in order to be closer to extended family and to immerse ourselves in nature. This leap-of-faith move has proven to be the most life-giving decision our family has ever made. We cherish this community: our rural neighbors of Chattahoochee Hills, our neighbors of Serenbe, as well as the community of wildlife that resides all around us. This is a land rich in natural and cultural history cared for by the Hearn family for generations prior. Some of the family members have generously shared their oral history with us. Come stay a while, and if you are interested, we will share those stories with you!

RV camping with full hookups as well as cabins near Atlanta guide

Overview

You don't have to look far from the busy streets of Atlanta to find a natural paradise. Mountain lakes, stone domes, and rugged forests are right at your fingertips. Ready for adventure? Just an hour's drive from downtown Atlanta brings you to secluded campgrounds and unspoiled Georgia state parks.

Spanning 3,200 acres, Stone Mountain Park is one of the most-visited spots in Georgia. You can't help but gawk at the huge quartz mountain looming 825 feet high. While you're there, hop on one of the hiking trails, ride the scenic railroad, or take the tram to the Stone Mountain summit. The park campground has almost 500 campsites (no kidding) and includes RV sites.

If big crowds aren't your thing, check out Sweetwater Creek State Park. The quiet hideaway is a lush haven for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. At Panola Mountain State Park, rugged mountain trails abound. It's easy to forget downtown Atlanta is only 20 miles away.

If you're camping with kids, Red Top Mountain State Park is a solid choice. Nestled on Lake Allatoona, the park has 15 miles of trails, a swimming beach, and a marina with boats for rent.

Want to stay close to the city? There are plenty of RV parks in Atlanta offering picnic tables, swimming pools, Wi-Fi, and other extras. If glamping is more your speed, you're in luck. The state parks and private campgrounds keep it classy with yurts, safari tents, and deluxe cabins.
