Weekend Trip to Little River Hideaway

Loved our stay with our little camper and two dogs. It was nice and clean. The raised porch was perfect us to place our 12x12 canopy over to escape from the rain and sun. Nice groomed trail down to a private water spot on the river. We will def be back!

Weekend Trip to Camp Moondog

This is probably my favorite hipcamp ever! We arrived late at night (10 pm) and had absolutely no issues finding the campsite and the adorable string lights really helped with setting up our tent. It’s the most gorgeous spot right on the river, and so quiet and secluded while being really close to town. The bank down to the river is quite steep, but it helped keep our dog from swimming all day. I can’t wait to come back!

Camping at Jake’s Farm was great! Very cool farm and the campsite right next to the creek was fantastic. Everything was clean and Chris was very helpful.

3 nights at Camp Moondog

We camped at the fern gully site, beautiful site 180° view of the flowing saluda river.. also caught some bluegill and a little bass. Now this site may be a bit of a trek for some and a little tip, when it rains . It pours.. be wary of that slick southern clay. it's completely secluded! Just you. the river. And nature! Also just minutes to downtown Greenville. And a short drive to Paris mountain.. Caesars head and table Rock State parks!

Weekend Trip to Ruby Ranch

I had a wonderful time tent camping at Ruby Ranch. I saw 2 out of 3 of the sites, both were pretty spacious and had trees for hammocks and easy access to the creek. You can pull your car right up to the sites to unload. The location is nearby to plenty of restaurants and hiking trails. I will be coming back again my next visit. My only complaints are the slight smell of horse manure, but it was not overbearing, and a lightly trafficked road right across the creek. For the price point and location, it is very easy to overlook the nit picky details! All around 10/10

The perfect retreat right on the river, the hosts were great, making us welcome then leaving us to enjoy. Our pup has a new favorite spot to retrieve in the water. And five minutes away Buffet Latino was serving a full Puerto Rican buffet at 9 am! The perfect exit!

It was our first time camping and it was a great experience from the beginning. Mike came to welcome us and show us the place around which was really nice. The space is great, the view is amazing, it’s crazy it’s so close to the actual city and you actually feel far away like others have said already. It was a nice private spot with lots of branches to make a fire. The river is right nearby which is very nice. It is a great camping spot that is very convenient given how close it is to town.

Nothing but nature. The sounds of birds and light water rapids was all that could be heard. Outhouse was sufficient. It’s nice that it’s off the road quite a bit. Feels very secluded. Plenty of room for a vehicle, tent, and anything else you want to set up. Right next to the river. Really good firewood. Pleasant stay. Will use again sometime.

The place far exceeded my expectations. Super clean, very peaceful and the camp host Lola was very nice. I highly recommend this place for a quick getaway in nature. Thank you for sharing your little oasis in the woods

This is a great campsite! Loved the wooden tent platform in the woods and the included setup (table, canopy, restroom). Secluded property. Phil is communicative and friendly. Caught a trout in the river right next to the site. Couldn’t ask for a better host and we had a great time. Looking forward to returning here.

Staying at Camp Dogmoon was an enchanting experience. The camp, situated right on the river, allowed for incredible views of the wildlife. We even heard beaver slaps on our second night. As I was leaving, I made a mistake and got my car stuck in the mud. The camp hosts quickly got me out of the mud and on my way. I would 100% recommend staying at Camp Dogmoon. It is easily one of my favorite campsites I have stayed at so far.

My wife and I moved to the area, from Boone, in the spring of 2014. Our dream was to own a house, preferably a cabin, on top of a mountain with long range views and a gradual winding road to the top. Living in Boone, this dream was definitely out of reach. When we began our search for a new home in the Asheville area, we discovered that the more affordable homes were in fact on the mountains. Perfect! In general I always have a pretty positive outlook on what’s possible, however, I was skeptical that we would ever find our dream home. As Jeannie began her Zillow browsing adventures, one particular cabin with acreage, that was outside of our budget continued to pop up. Jeannie would delete it and then it would come back. At some point the price began to drop, and drop, and drop. On our way back into town one weekend after attending a wedding, I convinced Jeannie to drive by the cabin just because we had the time. Immediately we fell in love and reached out to our realtor buddy. It was more of a shot in the dark but it couldn’t hurt, right? We held our breath for the next month totally expecting someone to get it under contract before us or the sellers not accepting our offer. It had already been reduced significantly so we knew our chances of a lowball offer were slim. We offered the most that we could get a loan for. They accepted! I still get anxious thinking back to that month, October 2014. Many years and two children later, here we are, just as excited everyday to make the long trek up our mountain as we were that August of 2014, and now we are happy to offer a similar experience to you, without having to buy the place. Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent in the grass on the tip top of the mountain or park your camper in the flat gravel spot with a fire pit just below the top with beautiful views overlooking Cane Creek. In the fall and winter enjoy 360 degree views and in the summer enjoy the shade and cool breeze while relaxing & snacking on wild wine berries and black raspberries. What you will not find is light pollution, traffic, and a desire to leave the mountain. Fall asleep to the calls of the hoot owl and wake up to the knocking of the wood pecker. If & when you decide to explore the area, be sure to checkout Hickory Nut Gap farm just 7.9 miles away & Whistle Hop Brewery 7.7 miles away. Turgua brewery just down on Cane Creek road is only 6.2 miles from camp. Cane Creek Valley Farm as well as the Cane Creek Community swimming pool is also at the base of camp just in case the kids need a dip of ice cream or a dip in the pool. Justus Apple Orchard is only 10 miles down the mountain towards Hendersonville. We love taking our kids there. We are only 15 miles from downtown Asheville & Hendersonville, and 22 miles from Lake Lure. You will be about 8 minutes to DuPont State Forest (my favorite hiking and biking area) which has miles and miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails. The entrance to Pisgah National Forest is about 15 minutes away as well so it's a convenient drive to visit the forest and drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I also own a company that guides "coffee hikes" to local waterfalls in DuPont State forest. You can find more about that in the photo descriptions. :) Please note!! My road up to my driveway is steep and bumpy. It’s only 0.3 miles up but bumpy. You don't need four wheel drive but higher ground clearance is recommended. (I have had small cars make it up but it is a bit intimidating if you are not used to driving in the mountains). if you have a small car just go slow. :) ------- Larger group? Want an indoor bath and shower?? If you are planning a larger group camping retreat and want to book the entire campground (including the main house with indoor shower, restrooms, and full kitchen and spare bedroom) I can make that happen for $500 a night. The famous Iron Bridge over the headwaters of the Chattooga River is just a short drive away down Bull Pen Road. You will find some of the best trout fishing and hiking trails in all of North Carolina at your doorstep. This temperate rain forest is enjoyable in every season and is exceptional in its ecological diversity and abundance. If you are interested in hiking to beautiful waterfalls, fishing in native trout streams, bird watching or star gazing, this is the place for you! And if you need supplies from town, Cashiers is the closest and is about 25 minutes away and Highlands is about a 45 minute drive. Both have great restaurants and shops to check out. Our gated, gravel driveway is steep and a half mile long. You will need an all-wheel or 4 Wheel drive vehicle to get up the driveway without spinning. There is ample space to turn around to park, but due to the nature of our driveway we limit the length of RV's to no more than 20 feet. There is not evening shade in July and August, However, there are shady spots very close to the camp site that you can enjoy. Where your camper sits the Sun goes down at the front of the camper. It is typically not an issue until mid-July and August. If you need additional details, please contact me. There are two homes near the camp site. The one behind the site is our home. Just me and my wife, currently no pets. The other home is a small white farmhouse that I currently rent to close friends. Chris and his wife and two well behaved kids. The kind of neighbors' people dream of! In five years of renting this site I have only had one couple that felt uncomfortable with the homes on our driveway. Greenville is a college town and outdoor adventure hub in upstate South Carolina with excellent hiking, climbing, paddling, biking, and camping nearby. Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Greenville is surrounded by state and county parks with alpine features, waterfalls, and sprawling trial systems. You can also beat the heat at multiple nearby lakes or paddle the Reedy River close to town. With numerous restaurants and breweries, Greenville makes a great basecamp to explore this area’s awesome nature. There are also local outdoor stores and outfitters in Greenville to prepare you for camping and wilderness exploration.

The Swamp Rabbit Trail is a 22 mile scenic greenway linking Greenville to Travelers Rest that’s popular with cyclists. Paris Mountain State Park preserves 1,700 acres of parkland and a 2,000-foot tall monadnock (isolated small mountain) within city limits. There are four lakes and 17 miles of hiking and biking trails to enjoy here, where RV campers will find an assortment of RV parks with free wifi, full hookups, and dump stations. Additional RV sites may be found locally in Pickens, Simpsonville, and Cleveland.

Table Rock State Park

About 40 minutes northwest of Greenville, Table Rock State Park is home to a spectacular granite dome with an elevation of 3,124 feet. There are hiking trails to the summit and shorter routes to waterfalls. The campground here has both tent camping and RV camping options, and sites come with picnic tables and fire rings.

Devils Fork State Park
