This is a breathtaking space that our family has poured many decades and multiple generations into. We are surrounded by jungle, with a freshwater stream running through the entire property and unobstructed mountain views. You are welcome to explore the grounds and enjoy the land. Chickens roam freely, with the occasional pig sightings in the evening. We do have a fair bit of bugs and geckos. If you’re especially sensitive to mosquitos, this might not be the place for you! Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants. There are so many great beach and land activities nearby, and I'm happy to lead you in the direction of whatever you might be interested in! We are very protective of this land and town, but would love to share the space with respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. This is a working farm. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. Wahi Nanea Place of Relaxation

The property is located on Maui island in the Kula district on the drier side of Haleakala. In days before western contact the area was heavily forested with native plants and trees and rainfall was abundant. The native Hawaiian grew bananas, taro and sweet potato. After Western contact businessmen mostly from the United States developed huge tracts of land for ranching and farming which cleared the native forests and destroyed the eco system from the mountain to the sea. Many of the Hawaiian people moved away nearer to the towns and immigrant Chinese laborers from the ranches and plantations moved in. The Chinese brought in the Wattle tree to plant for firewood as these trees grew very fast. These are the majority of the trees that you see today. As part of the Chinese immigration, the founder of modern China, Sun Yat Sen lived here for a time and planned his revolution to overthrow the last Chinese Dynasty. There is a park dedicated to him nearby.We have picnic tables a propane grill, a fire pit and a covered gazebo that is shared with 3 cabins This site is located at the 2800 ft altitude and the temperature at night can range from mid 50 to mid 60 degrees F. If you are planning to go to Haleakala, we are about 45 -60 minutes to the summit. We are also on the south side approach to Hana. There is a great restaurant for breakfast and lunch about 10 minutes away in Keokea town called Grandma's Coffee house.

Established in 2012 we are easily accessible to all the Big Island attractions such as Volcanoes National Park (1 hour South), Waipio Valley (1 hour North), and the countless sights and adventures along the Hamakua Coast, it is the perfect location to base your Big Island adventure vacation. The legendary Akaka Falls State Park is only 4 miles away from the Hamakua House. Onomea Bay is only 4 miles away, which is the home of the Hawaii Botanical Gardens. It is an unforgettable drive to get there and the bay is a wonderful place to have a picnic. We are only 1 mile (easily walkable) from the quaint main street of Honomu, HI. This town was established in the sugar cane plantation era and remains today boasting some wonderful gift shops, two restaurants, a coffee house, and the Island's best Zip Line Tours. Guests have access to our open air full bathroom with running water and a stunning rainfall shower (located at the main house). They also have access to our covered outdoor kitchen with grills, a sink, prep space, dining area, dishes, cups, silverware, and cookware (also located at the main house).

Waimanalo Farmstay

This is a breathtaking space that our family has poured many decades and multiple generations into. We are surrounded by jungle, with a freshwater stream running through the entire property and unobstructed mountain views. You are welcome to explore the grounds and enjoy the land. Chickens roam freely, with the occasional pig sightings in the evening. We do have a fair bit of bugs and geckos. If you’re especially sensitive to mosquitos, this might not be the place for you! Waimanalo is a small agricultural town filled with nurseries, horse stables, and a high concentration of Hawaiian homes. It remains mostly undeveloped and authentic, and we aim to keep it that way. While nestled against the mountains, we're just a five minute drive from the beach. We are fifteen minutes from Kailua town, where you'll find several grocery stores, shops, and restaurants. There are so many great beach and land activities nearby, and I'm happy to lead you in the direction of whatever you might be interested in! We are very protective of this land and town, but would love to share the space with respectful travelers looking for an authentic experience. While we are very hospitable, we are not in the business of hospitality. This is a working farm. I am happy to accommodate travelers, but I am not here at your beck and call. If that is the experience you are seeking, I think you would be happier elsewhere. We appreciate all of your bookings, and profits go directly back into farm infrastructure and new fruit trees. This exquisite and secluded property is located at the base of the Koʻolau mountains in Waimānalo. Surrounded by breath-taking views that will captivate and invigorate your spirit, this private property offers an experience that is one of a kind. With over 10 acres to explore, this regenerative farm is home to many fruit trees, indigenous plants, wild chickens, and other beautiful birds that you will likely spot while taking a stroll on our nature path. We have worked really hard to care for this ʻāina (land), and we are happy to share it with respectful travelers looking for a quiet, authentic, farm-stay experience. Camp Koʻolau provides bathrooms, a warm-water outdoor shower with an amazing view, and parking. Our farm is only a 5-minute drive to the beach, and 15 minutes from popular, Kailua town. As a working farm, we do have insects and geckos hanging around. So, it's not uncommon to encounter them. Also, we often have visits from wild pigs that come down from the mountain, so you may see them as well. Although we are certain you will love this place, please keep in mind, it takes a lot of hard work to maintain it. Thus, you will probably hear farm equipment and activities buzzing about (typically on the weekends). And, we want you to respect, love, and care for this place as much as we do by leaving it better than you found it.
