The Sandy River is a free-flowing river that begins in the mountains of Western Maine and meanders through our college town of Farmington where you can enjoy specialty shops and get a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants. We are about a 45 minute drive to Smalls Fall near the beginning of the Sandy River and has a series of five drops ( waterfalls) through a narrow gorge that challenge extreme kayakers. It's truly a sight to see .No worries if you're not into extreme kayaking you can drop a tube in the river near you campsite for a lazy day float down stream. Just a little FYI you may want to keep an eye out.....there's gold in them there rivers. It is a beautiful, quiet spot with a great view and a small pond. Hipcamp lets us share this spot and helps pay our property taxes.We are located in the western mountains of Maine in a summer community on Porter Lake. There is a beautiful view of New Vineyard mountain from our 3 acre field. We have 2 trailer sites with power and water (non potable) and an out house. The field has several fire pits and soft grassy spaces for pitching tents. The camping area is fairly private from our neighbors along the road. The site has a small private pond surrounded by trees you can sit and relax near. You can (walk/bike/drive) the 1/4 mile down the dirt road to the public beach. The beach has a public dock, boat ramp, swim float, picnic tables and grills. Paddle out to the island and try the rope swing with one of our kayaks or canoes. Be sure to check out the bald eagles that live in the white pine tree just a little farther down the island. You will hear the loons during your stay and possibly see a mother with her babies on her back. There are also ducks and ducklings and geese with gosling paddling about the lake. The state stocks the lake with trout, splake, and salmon if you like to fish. There is plenty to do right here!

Sunflower Ranch is the name of our home and property. Not only is our cozy, modest house sunflower yellow but in August it is surrounded with sunflowers of all sizes. We share our property with a flock of sweet hens and ducks.....and a few bossy roosters. Eggs are available for purchase if needed. There is a little greenhouse with herbs, greens and strawberries. The field is also an apple orchard that mostly feeds the wildlife. The tent site is privately placed in our cove unseen from the house. We wanted to offer a site that we would enjoy as well and feels like it is in a world of its own. We spend all of our free time outside, camping and paddling the local rivers and lakes. Tommy and I can recommend many beautiful remote Maine adventures for you to experience that are located off the grid and away from all other humans. The sweet city of Ellsworth is only 7 miles away for all of your provisions and Otis General Store is 1 mile away.. they have everything to get you through plus beer, wine, ice and homemade pizza. We can give you a pass to visit the Beech Hill Pond Beach also only 1 mile away (I walk there all the time) which has clear water and a sandy bottom. Great spot to spend the day sunbathing and swimming. I can offer yoga, personal training, boxing and paddleboard lessons or SUP yoga for some onsite physical fitness fun upon request. Learn more about this land: 16 by 12 ft A-Frame on a platform overlooking our private cove on Graham Lake. Walk through the forest trail to the Beech Hill Pond Stream and find a private little swim spot under a mini waterfall . Great fishing, loon watching, eagles and herons.
