Sunsets, stargazing, and sandy beaches—all the ingredients for a Lake Michigan camping experience.
If you’re looking for the best Lake Michigan Beaches, Southwest Michigan is a good place to start. Perched on the lakeshore at the mouth of the Black River, the beach town of South Haven has seven public beaches to its name. There’s fun to be had away from the lakeshore, too. Start in downtown South Haven, where you can browse the boutiques and grab an ice cream, then pick up a bike rental to explore the Kal-Haven Trail or go kayaking along the river. South of town, Van Buren State Park has some great hiking trails that wind through the dunes and woodlands, plus a campground with more than 200 RV sites (each with a 50-amp hookup, picnic table, and fire pit). Campers will find plenty of other options near South Haven, too, whether you prefer a family-friendly RV park with full hookups, a shaded tent site away from the crowds, or a glamping getaway.
