Explore waterfalls and hiking trails in this popular scenic stretch during a cabin stay.
Just east of Portland, the Columbia River Gorge has long been a popular spot among Portlanders looking for a quick out-of-town hike. Here you'll find miles of trails and lots of waterfalls, including Multnomah Falls—among the most popular natural attractions in Oregon. You'll also find crowds, and you'll actually need to acquire a timed use permit if you plan to visit the "waterfall corridor" (which runs from Bridal Veil Falls to Ainsworth State Park) in summer. Because much of the Columbia River Gorge is protected public land, you won't find a ton of cabins right by the river, but you needn't venture far to find a cozy cabin. Cabins are set at retreat centers on public lands on both the Oregon and Washington sides of the Columbia River, and many cabin, chalet, and cottage options exist just south of the gorge near Mount Hood, some with amenities like queen beds, free wifi, wood stoves, and hot tubs.
