The Sniders played an important part in the development of our town, Lucas, and surrounding schools. The rest of the land has been sold to two families, and all three purchasers (that includes us!) are establishing small family farms. Hurray! Plus the Snider's old house and barn next door are being renovated by the new owners! Since 2013, we have brought in water and electricity to the land, built fences, a house and several barns. We have a flock of chickens, a bunch of loud, nosey Nubian dairy goats, 2 cats and 2 dogs. We farm organic vegetables, and have planted some fruit trees. We are committed to conservation of our land and the wildlife that call it home, and are working to restore our wildflower meadow (location of the campsite) to original prairie state. Stake your tent on the edge of our tallgrass wildflower meadow, and immerse yourself in diversity where the city ends and the country begins. Enjoy a fire in the fire ring from your seat on a "porch" swing as the sun goes down and the wildlife begin their nightly symphony. When the sun comes up, you'll have many choices to make--cycling, horseback riding, fishing, boating, paddling, hiking, running, strolling, visiting with the goats, cats and chickens, helping with farm chores, or just sitting to enjoy the peace and serenity of the farm. There are many great shopping and eating choices withing 15 miles. Breakfast will be brought to your campsite for an additional fee, booked in advance. Horse pasture rentals is available, also booked in advance. (We do not offer horseback riding,) Eggs, local honey, seasonal veggies, baked goods artisan food products, goat milk products and firewood are available for sale. No dirt bikes, ATVs or RTVs; no motorcycles except as transportation. No discharge of firearms allowed. No hunting, no bows and arrows, no fireworks. Learn more about this land: We hope you find everything you need for your home away from home stay. The WIFI password is listed in the cabin and the gate code and house code will be given to upon confirmation of your booking. Once inside you will find remotes for AC/HEATER, TV, and small fireplace...remotes are in a metal container to the left of the sofa sleeper. The bedding for the twin sleeper is in a bin under the queen bed along with additional towels in the bottom drawer of the dresser. The dresser is labeled with additional supplies. The cottage is stocked with snacks, water, coffee, toiletries and complimentary wine. There is a first aid kit and fire extinguisher in the bathroom. There is a can outside in the front to the right of the door that has snacks for the cows. You are welcome to go into the pasture where the cows visit but please only feed on this side of the fence, not inside the pasture. You may roam the 8 acres but our property line ends halfway of the pond. There will be an open gate for cows to visit to and from, but on the other side of the gate is not our property. You have access to the dock and fit pit with wood and starter. Please enjoy! You may fish if you like and will need your own fishing gear. You have access to the main house patio where you are welcome to use the grill, table, sink and the fireplace. However if freezing temperatures, the water will be turned off in the outdoor sink.
