The best camping near Lumber River State Park guide

Overview

About

Lumber River State Park holds one of the longest stretches of river of any park in the state. 115 miles of river flows through this extensive area, 81 of which are designated national wild and scenic waters. That’s the equivalent of an official stamp that declares good times for anyone who paddles here. And paddle you should. No trip to Lumber River State Park would be complete without logging at least a few miles drifting down the beautiful waterway.

But if water really isn’t your thing, there are 11,064 acres of land where you can find a million ways to stay entertained. We’d recommend the 1.5-mile trail in the Princess Ann area, which features a 100-foot boardwalk across a wetland area and a turn-of-the-century millpond. Now that we’ve wet your appetite for adventure, get out there and quench it!

When to go

The ideal time to visit Lumber River State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural scenery is at its peak. Summer months can be warm and humid, perfect for water activities, while winter offers a quiet, stark beauty. Avoid peak holiday weekends for a more serene experience.
