Nomadic camping
Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
Come enjoy the beauty of 37 acres of undeveloped Colorado high desert land with stunning views of the Grand Hogbacks and Roan Plateau (also locally known as the Bookcliffs). This incredible spot has diverse topography, allowing for a variety of opportunities for any camper. At Shaka Ranch we have two ponds, great for skipping rocks, relaxing next to with a good book or the perfect spot to take in nature. Oakley and Coral are our two sweet donkey’s; that love daily rubs and will keep you company. Seasonally we have pigs and lambs in the barn and they also love visitors. This beautiful getaway is privately tucked up Alkali Creek but is only 6 minutes from the Colorado River, where you can fish, play frisbee golf or access and a boat ramp, if you are the adventurous type. The ranch is 12 minutes from incredible mountain biking and hiking trails; these could keep a person active all day. The Town of New Castle is only minutes away, perfectly situated for all your basic needs and delicious dining options. Glenwood Hot Springs is just a bit further, approximately 20 minutes and Aspen is 55 minutes. It is only 2.5 hours from Denver and 1 hour from the Grand Junction. Our family would love to offer suggestions on great dining, recreation spots and campfire recipes. We can’t wait to share our space with you.Pitch your tent and have access to the community fire ring. These camp spots are on a first come basis. Most are drive up and two are a 3-5 minute walk from the road. These sites are all considered primitive camping. Upon request we can have tent, water, propane stove and other camping necessities available for a small additional cost.

Host cancelled..seems sketchy

Instant booked this site and then got a phone call from hosting she couldn’t accommodate us because of construction and that she had refunded us. I did not get a full refund due to the fact that it was less than 24 hours. She claimed that she had asked Hipcamp to not allow reservations. It seems like she should have more control over the booking process like not allowing instant bookings when they know they can’t accommodate reservations or just removing their property for the time being. The whole ordeal seems shady to me.

Wendi was super friendly, communicative, and reliable. We booked a same day stay pretty last minute and was lucky it was here! Totally beautiful and easy.

Concerning
20 ft campervan
This site was available to be booked and I booked it for two nights. The owner later said that it was no longer available and my money would be refunded. I got a message that a refund was issued but nothing had posted to my account several days later. Not OK.

This area was absolutely beautiful! We had the whole area to ourselves which made for a very fun and quiet stay. There is little maintenance to the tent camping spots/there was no bathroom so it was a little rugged but we loved it!
