Pitch your tent or park your campertrailer in the native bushland with the pristine Numeralla River as your boundary fence. This 3000 acre property is located close to Nimmitabel and not too far from Cooma. Try your hand at trout fishing and enjoy endless tracks for bushwalking and observing the native wildlife. Wander along the river banks just enjoying the serenity of the location and witness platypus feeding, water dragons sunning themselves and the brown trout fly feeding and one of Australia's beautiful but lesser known native rodents, Rakali (intelligent semi aquatic water rat who's scientific name translates to golden -bellied water mouse). One of Australia's two aquatic mammals, the platypus being the other. This campsite suits self-contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower. IF NO CHEMICAL TOILET, DIG A HOLE AT LEAST 30CM DEEP . There is access to a drinking water supply (mountain river water), or you can bring your own water. After heavy rain you may need to boil/filter for drinking. You will need a 4WD to access the campsites closest to the river as there is a shallow gully crossing. Camper trailer or off road pop up campers will be able to negoiate the tracks. Good clearance necessary to pass over one gully crossing. Dogs are welcome, however, we do run sheep in an adjoining paddock so they need to stay close to your camp. Kids aged 16 and under camp for free. There is a dedicated campfire pit so you can stay warm on chilly evenings (please check to see if there is a seasonal fire ban in place). Fire wood can be provided - chainsaws are permitted but be mindful of structures that are animal habitats. Your family may enjoy taking a bushwalk that takes you around the 300 acre native bush paddock. Climb up and get a birds eye view down into a gully of magnificent granite boulders above where the river disappears deep below. Identify the unique sounds of the native birds and follow the tracks wildlife create. We are centrally located - just 1.5 hours from the snowfields and from the best beaches of the NSW coastline. There is a small general store, 2 takeaway cafes and a pub at Nimmitabel, or you can get all supplies in Cooma 25 mins away. Please note that we have very limited reception service for mobiles, so let's communicate via messages before you arrive in our area. I can provide a camping setup if you need extra bedding or you don't have any camping equipment or tent.

Kybeyan Retreat offers a mostly serene and beautiful camping experience with plenty of wildlife and nature to explore. The location is described as peaceful and secluded, making it an ideal spot for those looking to disconnect, though some reviews mention challenges with directions and the condition of the river due to rainfall variability. While most visitors enjoyed the natural setting and friendly host, some noted issues with overgrown areas and flat camping spots, as well as concerns about safety and value for the price. Despite a few reservations, the retreat is generally appreciated for its scenic beauty and opportunities for wildlife observation.

We spent a night at Kybeyan Retreat we had the place to yourselves. Beautiful property with plenty of places to camp by the river. River was not as full as I think it could be but absolutely beautiful. Our Labrador was constantly in the water and enjoyed being off the lead. We highly recommend and will stay again.

What a beautiful off grid spot! Definitely recommend a 4x4 to get to the hot spots next to the swimming holes. A little bit confusing to get there but it was fine, note that the main gate is called Eblana, so make sure you find that! No reception so make sure you know where you are and that you have all the things! We saw a platypus in the river we camped next to, it was surreal. Thanks so much Liz, an unreal magical location. We did so much exploring by walking and in the troopy!! It was incredible

Great spot! Beautiful setting, easy to find. River was low due to not much rain which made swimming a bit challenging but in wetter times it would be amazing! Definitely coming back:)

Peaceful and Relaxing
A lovely little spot amongst the Numerella River. Liz was great, fast responses and we barely saw a single person during our stay.

Seasoned camper and have stayed at a few Hipcamps now but unfortunately we’d have to say this one missed the mark somewhat. Difficult to follow host’s directions to the specific site. All sites were quite overgrown, lots of tall grass for snakes, and very limited or in fact in some cases non existent flat spots for tent. Limited shade, lots of flies. We tried to go for a swim in the creek but saw a large decomposing roo car as in the water so gave that a miss. Host did not drop by to check in with anyone during our stay. Some sites are quite close to each other. We were glad we were only staying two nights.

Loved this simple and quiet bush campsite to relax under the eucalypts. An amazing variety of birdlife to keep you entertained including Flame Robins, Striated Pardalotes, Sacred Kingfishers, Silvereyes plus lots of cuckoos, wrens, treecreepers, honeyeaters, parrots, eagles and more. We counted about 40 different bird species in our two days here, plus other critters like wombats, ringtail possums, wallabies and roos. You’re right in the bush with no facilities, and it is a bit snakey (to be expected) so this site might not suit you if you’re precious. Friendly landholders came down bringing a smile, firewood and the cricket scores. We enjoyed ducking down to nearby Nimmitabel for a schooner at the Federal - a pub with character and characters. During periods of higher rainfall the creek would be perfect for a dip - for us we were happy to splash our feet to cool off between beers. A couple other campsites nearby, but far enough to enjoy the quiet. Access was easy enough in our 4wd and directions were good.
