Bush camping along the banks of a seasonal Gully that is lined with huge, majestic paperbark trees. There are 10 separate camp spots and all have a slashed track to the pit toilet. 3 in shady areas away from the gully that are suitable for Caravans. 3 located near the Gully, suitable for Caravans and larger groups and 4 that are located near the Gully but only suitable for camp trailers, roof top tents and smaller groups.
Enjoy nature and feel free to explore the gully with it's many natural bridges and hidden animal habitats. As this is a working family farm, cattle from the remaining property will graze this Gully block from time to time so all gates must remain closed. We also ask that children are supervised at all times and advise that the Gully is not suitable for swimming.
Kelsey Creek is a cane farming district and a small gauge train line goes past the property which makes for a lovely rural experience. Keep an eye out for the glow in the sky and you might get to witness a cane fire also.
Being only 7 minutes west of Proserpine it is well located to take in the beauty of the Whitsundays.
Gully Getaway is in an Environmental Protection Zone that restricts trees being felled and the removal of debris in the watercourse, so please do not use for firewood.
Gully Getaway offers a peaceful camping experience nestled amongst nature, with spacious sites and welcoming hosts. The campsite is appreciated for its quiet surroundings, clean facilities, and the occasional friendly cow wandering by. While most feedback is positive, some guests noted the singular toilet and the cost of firewood as areas for improvement. Overall, it's a serene spot ideal for relaxing and exploring nearby attractions like Airlie Beach.
Caravan - Stayed 5 nights. Excellent bush camping on a private property in amongst cane fields, surrounded by a gully, with a good choice of sites for different types of camping. A few good sites for vans, plenty of room to pull though or manoeuvre, mostly flat, with reasonable grass cover. A working property, so area occasionally used by cattle, with plenty of scattered cow dung, but no issue. Large fire pits strategically placed around the property, with firewood available to purchase. Host Kate is very responsive.
Only a couple of other campers in while I was there, so very private, but I am sure it gets very busy at times. About 10 mins drive from Proserpine, and 30 mins to Airlie Beach area, so a great base to explore the area from.
It was a great stay, and I most certainly would return next time I am passing through. Thanks Kate!
Highly recommend if you’re looking for a quiet country spot when exploring the Sarina/Mackay region. Plenty of flat areas & great camp kitchen. Really clean toilet too! Great birdlife, wallabies, fireflies in the creek & so much more … the cattle are very friendly & no bother. We stayed for over a week!
