The oral history of Coal Mine Hollow has it that a moonshine still once graced the banks of Camp Cedar Creek. It was run by a recluse, who was always on the move from the Revenuers. A revenuer went missing along Cedar Creek one moonlit night, never to be seen again.
The bearded recluse who ran the still, owned two mules, and an old car frame without a motor. Those mules would pull him through the hollow, and up into the mountains, where the revenuers never found him. Some say on a cold, moonlit night, they’ve seen his two old mules, pulling an old car frame past Camp Cedar Creek.
This was a great location! The campsite was right next to the creek in a quiet part of the forest. My friends and I had a great and relaxing time and David is a great host.
We really enjoyed camp cedar creek! David was very attentive. He showed us to our site which required driving over a small stream crossing which was fun! A higher clearance car with awd/ or 4x4 is needed to reach site 3 and 1 unless you want to park and walk your gear a short distance to the site. We were the only people out there so we looked at the other sites and chose to stay at site 1. Site 1 and 2 are the best sites imo and most secluded feeling. Both are very large and can hold multiple tents. The clear flowing creek was beautiful and the dog loved playing in it. The portapotty was super clean and being able to buy wood from David was convenient. We would definitely stay here again.
Great host - provided detailed directions to the site, met us when we arrived and gave a rundown of the area, checked in via text throughout our stay to see what we needed
Camp site, trails, and bathroom facility were very clean and well kept.
We had a fantastic time at camp site 3! The space is large and private, well wooded, and right next to a bubbling creek. David was an excellent host. Overall, a great way to spend a weekend. We’ll be back!
We had a great time at Site 3! The site felt remote and huge, the creek bubbled nearby, and David was a very kind host. We’ll be back! The directions were easy to follow, the sites are very generously spaced, and the firewood was ready to roll. It was pastoral and idyllic!
