Lower Elk Lake - Full RV Hookup

1 site · RV2 acres · Hoffman, MN
Full hookup RV site on a natural environment lake and 2 acres to spread out. The site is just a short drive on a well maintained gravel dead end road. The bay is very shallow so unfortunately fishing and swimming are not recommended. The view of the lake and gentle slope to the lake make it a perfect setting for your RV. For reference, the site is roughly 25 miles west of Alexandria, 90 miles north west of St. Cloud and 155 miles north west of Minneapolis.

Overview

About

Big Stone Lake State Park, aptly named for all the giant glacial boulders just hanging out everywhere, proves that camping in southern Minnesota can be just as cool as up north (eat your heart out, Boundary Waters). The source of the Minnesota River, this swimming and fishing destination sits on the border with South Dakota and offers great views of Hartford Beach State Park on the river’s Mt. Rushmore State side. Birders will want to pack binoculars to catch the meadowlarks, wrens, bobolinks, pheasants, and wild turkeys that rule the skies, and amateur archeology fans can scan the ancient granite bedrock for gnarly fossils (apparently there’s mad shark’s teeth along the river).

Notable campgrounds

  • Yellow Medicine Campground - A scenic retreat for campers seeking tranquility amid the park's eastern landscapes.
  • Horse Campground - Ideal for equestrians, this campground offers direct access to trails and a true outdoor experience.
  • Backpack/Watercraft Campground - For the adventurous at heart, this remote site is accessible by hiking or watercraft.

  • Consider visiting during weekdays for better availability and a quieter camping experience.
