Mis Raices - MY FAMILY ROOTS

Being a part of the Spanish & Mexican Land Grant granted to Francisco Farias by Spain in 1808.....but there is no copy in the Texas General Land Office of this title....the land was confirmed by the Legislature, Act of February 10, 1852, and said tract was also called "Santa Cruz" (Confirmation No. 6 for the County of Starr) My heritage is very important to me. I have followed my roots back to early 1700s. You will have a glimpse of my story. The water container on the property is almost 100 years old. The stones were harvested from nearby.Learn more about this land:We are a small hole in south Texas. My paternal grandfather migrated to the Rio Grande Valley and bought his piece of Mis Raices. Enjoy our Ranch Side RV park with four 40' x 50' campsites, and take in an astonishing view of our beautiful Texas sunrise. If you are inclined to a peaceful country setting, away from the noise and congestion of a large RV park and the bustle of the city, this is the place for you! When you are ready for the city or the beaches of South Padre Island or perhaps you want to witness Space X launching a Starship, we are less than three miles from Interstate 2 (US Route 83) which will take you there. You will also find at this same interstate junction, the Rio Grand Valley Livestock Show grounds, which host rodeos (since the 1930's), concerts and Fairs. We offer monthly rates of $450, and weekly rates of $150. Let us let you in on a little secret, we are located at a latitude approximate to North Miami, where you will find very pleasant winter temperatures and no one down here owns a snow shovel! Make us your winter get away, nestled between gently grazing cows on one side and goats on the other, come for a few weeks or lock-in a lot as a regular winter Texan. When you come here to Mercedes, Texas, located in the heart of the Rio Grand Valley, you will experience not only the warmth of many sunny days, but you will find, perhaps to your surprise, the warmth and friendliness of the Mexican-American people and culture amidst rural settings as well as modern health facilities, shopping centers, events and entertainment. We warmly await your arrival!

Overview

About

Bird watching is an Olympic sport in this Texas state park. More than 350 bird species either live here or pass through on migration routes. The 1,200 acres of surrounding federal government land serves as a refuge for 200 more species.

Binoculars are a must in this World Birding Center. The reason for the excitement stems from tropical birds. Nowhere else in America can you see certain types of tropical birds.

Start a game of bird bingo to document your finds. Play the alphabet game to see who spies the most birds from A to Z. An elevated walkway makes it easy to get to all areas of this 797-acre park. The path puts you close to the treetops. It also lets you gaze out onto the Rio Grande River.

A total of 10 rustic walk-in campsites await you. Be prepared to share your campsite with some magnificent birds.

When to go

The prime time to visit Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park is from September through April, when the weather is mild and the migratory birds are in abundance.
