Enjoy a lakeside campground and access to a resort at Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park.
Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park—also known as Stonewall Resort—is a 1,900-acre lakeside park and resort outside of Buckhannon in West Virginia. Its lake was formed as an impoundment on the West Fork River and is surrounded by wooded rolling hills that serve as the setting for hiking and biking trails, plus a disc golf course and a winter ice skating rink. Fishing for bass and crappie is a popular pastime on the lake, and the park offers kayak and pontoon boat rentals to get you on the water. Visitors may be able to spot white-tailed deer, bald eagles, black bears, and bobcats during their adventures. The park’s only campground has 179 tent and RV sites on the banks of the lake, while other overnight options include lakeside cottages and resort rooms.
Summer is the most popular time to visit Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park. Autumn visitors can witness the fall foliage transformation in the forested hills surrounding the lake. The park is open year-round, but some services, such as the marina, close for winter. Low temperatures can dip below freezing from November to March, so winter campers should have cold-weather gear or opt to stay in the resort lodging. Winter visitors should call the campground in advance of their trip at (304) 269-8889 for information on road closures.
